Annouced today that Ben Affleck will replace Christian Bale as the new Batman.

What do you think?

I think it's a great choice. I am not sure it will allow for the same dark character, as CB excels in that role, however it "fits" in my head. The other day there was a list of actors in contention (BA wasn't on the list) and I couldn't imagine any of them.

Doesn't do it for me. I'm scared he's going to pull off a very Schumacher Batman like Val Kilmer and George Clooney.

Well that is what I was inferring, I am expecting a few more of the Clooney type movies, which is fine, some of each provides a reasonable balance.

I disagree, depends on the focus of the movie. If it's more comedic I expect him to do reasonably well. No-one thought Tom Cruise could pull off Jack Reacher and he did a fine job.

I'm sorry but isn't the bigger issue the idea of a Batman / Superman crossover?

I can only think of one time when this was done right and that was Dark Knight Returns which I doubt Hollywood is keen on making into a movie.

I think there are about a million ways to make a Batman Vs Superman movie awful and possibly two ways to make it good.

I really can't imagine who is playing the leads will matter in the slightest but for what it's worth, not much, I think Ben would do as well as anybody.

Yeah, I know they are trying to do Justice League because of the success of The Avengers but the was in large part down to the fact that Robert Downy Jr is a really cool, fun actor to watch on screen and Scarlet Johansen has a great ... presence to.

This is going to have ... what exactly? Two actors who aren't first rate and Amy Adams?

I just don't get putting a mortal with an immortal in a super hero movie, the balance would be stupid. I've never understood the concept I don't think I ever will.

It can work if the writer is a genius. The Dark Knight Returns is includes an appearance by Superman which actually works very well but ... Frank Miller is a genius, and the art is also amazing although I can't remember who did it.

Hollywood treatment? Well, that's a bit different...

I hope he steers clear of trying to put on a tough-guy voice like Christian Bale did (which he sucked at.)

I can't say I've enjoyed a Batman movie since the Michael Keaton one.

The premise can certainly work, after all Batman is the only human that's defeated Superman. Also during the reveal of a Batman/Superman movie a line from Dark Knight Returns was read, so it's possible that could form some of the storyline.

I just don't see how it could be a "comedic" style of movie though, based on it being a sequel to Man of Steel which went a long way towards turning Superman into a serious character with serious tones, and the Dark Knight trilogy doing the same.

I agree unless they are planning some kind of homage to the Adam West Batman then I doubt they will try to go 'comedic'.

Having said that, again if the writer is a genius, it can be done. I once read a Judge Dredd / Batman crossover and it was actually really good. It featured Judge Death singing Sympathy For the Devil with changed lyrics such as 'I'm an alien super-fiend'. I also doubt that Hollywood could pull that off on screen.
