The size, power consumption and quietness along with iLO would mean I could finally setup a proper network wide backup solution and media hub.

Yup, I think there's a bit of a pattern here, but I'm also loving the small size and low power consumption. Not to mention it actually looks damn sexy! Ideal home server I'd say.

This would be a great box to replace my always on PC / hyper v host as the power bills are starting to hurt. Love the lights out functionality as well

The main feature that I like with this is the chance to finally get redundancy in my server solution. As in, no more dead drives taking files with them to technology nirvana... Secondly it's the small size of its footprint (physically and energy). Both reasons are huge benefits.

Do want! Something that I can fit in the corner to replace the current gigantic (very slow!) tower serving my needs, that doesn't put out more heat than a V8 Exhaust Manifold and more sound than a Boeing 747 would suit quite nicely. Bonus that I can fit more disk, and virtualising my two servers won't result in a 5 minute wait every time I click start!

I like that it can boot off microsd, so it makes an ideal lab server for esxi or hyperv training (that it's fully supported by esxi 5.5 is even better), and this is what I plan on doing with it.

Yep. Same benefits as have been outlined previously.

1. Low power usage
2. Quiet.
3. Small form factor

All in that order. I will use it to replace the box I have in the cupboard which sounds like a small jet engine. I do like jet engines but not in the house!

micro sd or usb for boot are great, and the iLO capability means you can stash it in the attic and never have to worry about attaching a keyboard/screen

What's not to like? Low power consumption, flexible server & a managed Gigabit switch

This pair would become the heart of my home network - replacing my cheap (& nasty) NAS device with a proper server, and I'll probably end up using it as a backup and media server as well.

I already knew that the Microserver is attractive: cheap to run, quiet and able to have the controller RAID turned off so I can use ZFS at it's most useful.

The switch is a surprise: 8-port Gigabit and it's stackable with the Microserver.
