I enjoyed In N Out Burger while in America. I don't eat fast food much but would prefer that over most of our current offerings. Chik-fil-a would be great as well, even if they close on Sundays.

If you ever find yourself in London, check out "Gourmet Burger Kitchen" its a join opened by Kiwis. Check out their menu. http://www.gbk.co.uk/menu/burgers/ - its easy to see where they hail from and their burgers are DELICIOUS!

Its a scandal they haven't opened any places in NZ!

In out looks gross. I used to go to Burger Fuel a lot, but after they dropped the awesome Combustion Tofu there is always somewhere better to go. Yes it was several years ago but I still feel the pain. For a second back there I thought it was going international. Bring back the CT ; ).

reven: I hate Carls.... wendys has gone to rubbish over the last year. BK and McDs are the only places I really go now. mcds is consistent, always basically the same basic burgers, but always hits the spot. and now with georgie pies :)

The Angus Mac is pretty good.

dclegg: Meh. I had an In n Out burger recently when in San Francisco. Thought it was not much better than most fast food burger joints. Now Grumpy's on the other hand... really good burgers there! A+++ would trade again!

Quality can vary from country to country within the same brand.  I've heard Subway is much better overseas than here.

If they don't meet local expectations they won't last like Wimpy didn't.

wendys has gone to rubbish over the last year.

What have they done?

According to my wife GBK used to exist in NZ but no longer.. I wonder why?
I am a regular at GBK (there is one in the town I live) and love their food!

Went to In and Out a few time while in San Francisco (one just around the corner from the hotel)
I got the Double Double both times and the first time just got the regular meal - found the burger to be ok, and the fries to be bland

Second time I got Animal Fries and found the salt/pepper/sauce area and they were still ok (burger was better though)

i wish they bought in pizza hut snack pizzas here to food courts like they have in Australia. I loved those, basically like a 6" (or so) pizza. Alas most of the foodcourts only have McDs in them.. some have BK.

Dudes, if you ask me 'Food Court' is either a contradiction in terms or should result in jail.

If you have been to South East Asia you have probably eaten Street Food. Now that is what this country needs.

More Asian food is always desirable, but another fast food place I thoroughly enjoy is Taco Bell.. more Mexican to the people!

I haven't eaten there, you know the Americans used to call it Taco Hell, right?. I'm guessing it has improved.

I really love Mexican food ... but and it's a big BUT... I have struggled to find what I would call good Mexican food in New Zealand. Mexican Cafe in Auckland was good last time I ate there but that was over 10 years ago. So often if I eat Mexican out it seems like an excuse for lazy cooking and I know this isn't the case with traditional Mexican food.

There is a place in Miramar I'm keen to try but any other suggestions welcome.

As for In N Out, another quality burger joint is always welcome. I personally prefer Wisconsin over Burger Fuel, I find Burger Fuel patties a bit bland for something marketed as 'gourmet'.

My dream burger is just beef, salad, sauces and bun. No cheese, bacon or any of that other stuff. The thing is this dream burger doesn't need the extras because the beef, salad, sauces and bun are so good anything else would just detract from that. You don't cover a good steak in cheese and bacon do you?

I love Asian hole in the wall places that are over Auckland. But I would not move up from Wellington for that!

Back OT, I went to In and Out a few times in the SF Bay Area. I was pretty underwhelmed. I much prefer these guys which I used to eat at at least once a week when I was working in the US

http://www.fuddruckers.com

They grilled the burger and bun to your preference and then you piled on whatever toppings you wanted from a salad bar

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

As with any type of fast food joint, it's always going to be "processed & fast". By no means does it compete with a traditional Mexican restaurant but I have tried it twice in NY and once in the UK (Manchester) and have not been disappointed. Portions are quite good as is the variety and it comes close enough to actual Mexican rather than an "Americanised" version (as you often see with pizza places).. although you can skew proportions by adding extra cheese..

-edit-

Oh to stay on the burger subject, here is the menu of Kiwi chain "Gourmet Burger Kitchen" UK
