Just seen it on the big screen (Hoyts Metro), the BBC did a real good job with the 3D and HD.
Really makes me wish Sky TV would upgrade Prime to HD.

DVD/Blu-Ray release on the 4th of Dec.

During the afternoon I watched An Adventure in Space and Time.

Very good enactment of how the Doctor Who series came to be... Pretty cool last scene too!

Well done Prime TV.

By law, there are no tv ads from 6:00am to midday on Sundays (and Anzac day). The breaks are "self promotion" - adverts for other Prime shows. Tonight's 8:30 screening is scheduled to be 15 mins longer! (BTW, pre 1989, there were no ads on Sundays on tv or radio) I recorded it, but haven't watched it yet, but looking forward to it.

Those self serving promos should be classified by law as advertizing..

I did enjoy the 3D showing at Silvia Park this afternoon though.. First time I've seen a full house for years..

We watched it in 3D at Downtown Cinemas in Palmerston North last night. It was a great vibe - nearly full house, and a few people dressed up (some just little nods like bow ties, sonic screwdrivers, and so on). What was great was the reactions throughout the audience - a lot of laughter, cheers, clapping. Felt less like a movie and more like a live theatre show.

I did think afterwards that the cinema missed a trick. Given the significance of the anniversary, and the presence of so many obvious fans, they should have had an "official" photographer there to take photos of people as they came into the theatre, with prints available after the show for $10. They would have made a bundle, I bet...

The "surprise guest" turning up at the end made me very happy. "Obtained" both the 2D and 3D versions in Hi-Def goodness.

Out of interest I started watching "Shada" on the weekend too, pretty funny that Douglas Adams reused a pretty big chunk of it, often word-for-word, as the backstory in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

I haven't seen much of the most recent season, I went off it in a big way unfortunately. I was going to try and catch up on the episodes I'd missed before watching this, but I couldn't wait and was pleased to see you don't need much of a back story to watch the 50th special. It feels pretty self contained, I'm sure there are previous season easter-eggs but it doesn't cause any problems with following the story.

So if you haven't seen Who for a while, don't worry you can still watch this special and not feel out of the loop. Especially if you watch the little prequel webisode first (with Paul McGann).

That all said, it was an average episode until near the end. When EVERYONE showed up it was just magic (I assume that's vague enough to not be spoilery!)

he was there :) (well his eyes were :P)

saw it at Sylvia at 12:20, I was surprised by the mix of people in the cinema, about even split of male/females, huge age range.

Wasn't as good as I was hoping, wanted more of the time war in there. Tennant and Smith were brilliant together though.
