reven: hmmm i was thinking about ordering a padfone inifinity from them in a few weeks...

they were quick to respond to my email regarding import gst, saying they take care of it and is billed to them, which is nice. but yeah...

Padfone Infinity Plus with Tablet Dock is what I ordered and they've been stuffing around so far.

I would never buy from somewhere that doesn't have p[roper contact details and promotes itself as CHEAP.....usually a bad idea.

FWIW, I found MobiCity (China-based, has an office in Auckland and all NZ landline enquiries routed to the Phillippines), relatively excellent compared to ValueBasket. Very good communication and progress updates. Mobile in my hand in about two weeks after placing order.

Another update:

Gave them a ring and sent them a threatening email, apparently I've been stuck on the priority list with express delivery but the item has yet to be shipped. I'll give them 2 more days before I threaten them some more.

My experience with ValueBasket just short of a year ago was negative.

After I enquired whether, and VB specifically confirmed that the phone I wanted was in stock, I placed my order, and my credit card was charged immediately.

My order never got beyond the "Order Processing" stage. After one of my multiple enquiries my order was "upgraded to expedited delivery service at no extra cost to (me)".

Every communication I received from VB - from a different name each time - was in language that looked as if it had been copied from a customer relations textbook.

After two weeks of the inventory of the phone going up and down on the VB Web page yet no progress in my order and just a bad feeling on my part I demanded a refund. I got it on the second demand. I had already notified my credit card issuer that I thought the company had scammed me.

I notified the head sherang of Geekzone without posting anything on a forum, as I didn't want to wreck Geekzone's relationship with VB if VB were new and having teething problems, or if the problem had been an honest fumble at VB's end but just poorly explained.

But from the comments in this thread it looks as if VB's problem is more systemic.

I would have liked to bring the problem to the attention of the consumer or commerce authority in Hong Kong, which is where I assume VB is based. This kind of misconduct is liable to sully the reputation of HK shippers more generally.

freitasm:
Dunnersfella: They do advertise on this site, so I'll be careful.

We don't run advertising for ValueBasket but they do run Google AdWords. After visiting their website to check the T&Cs I now see ValueBasket ads on Geekzone. So really, "They do advertise on this site, so I'll be careful" sounds to me like a warning in the lines of "don't say something bad because freitasm may not like it and remove the post|ban the user".

Do you really think that low of us admins/mods here?

I suppose you can take my post whatever way you want.
I just didn't want to hurt the financial lifelines that keep this site afloat. I pay a yearly fee to use the site, but I realise (from helping out with other sites) that the subscribers don't pay all the bills. I'm sensitive to how important ad dollars are, and don't want to hurt this for you.
Now if I want to say what I thought of admins / mods, I'd need to know who they were to begin with. Honestly, I could only name yourself... and you're fine.

Update:

I received an email sometime last night telling me that they shipped the item. As far as I can tell, it seems that everything is going well even with the minor delay, though I will credit them the benefit of saying that there is a possibility that they were experiencing high volumes since the are closed over Christmas and New years, but they failed to indicate clearly on their website that they did actually close. That information is hidden deep in the contact us page.

Stay tuned, I'll do a final update when I receive the package.
