Regs: Parking is expensive too - especially in city.

Last time I drove in Sydney (and it was a few years ago), parking was generally outrageous, true enough.

However, having said that, I found relatively cheap on-street parking (metered) in the Royal Botanic Garden, which is only a few minutes walk (and quite pleasant too!) to the Opera House and then onto Circular Quay.

A quick google search showed that you can get early bird parking (in by 9:30am, out between 3:30 and 7pm) at The Domain Car Park for $17, which isn't too bad (it's all relative!) http://www.domaincarpark.com.au/rates-a-times.html, so if you plan a bit in advance, you may find that easier / more flexible....

Thanks for everyone's suggestions, we did the following, in no particular order:

- Harbour Bridge Climb - very expensive but highly recommended
- Cabaret cruise around Sydney Harbour
- Blue Mountains - was a complete white out but can't predict the weather
- Lunch at Doyles out at Watsons Bay
- Luna Park
- Visited the food markets at the Rocks, and returned for the general market
- Taronga Zoo
- Bondi
- Fort Dennison

Also saw Lion King at the Capitol Theatre which was amazing. Again, thanks for all your suggestions, I think we did most of them :)

All those suggestions are good.

The Fish markets are good too (assuming you like seafood) - catch the light rail from Darling Harbour. Great value seafood/fish and Chips.

I did not find Taronga as good as Auckland Zoo - thought it was all a bit too 'cagey'. Last went there about 10 years ago though, so it may have changed.

Enjoyed hunting round in the shops in the basement of the Queen Vic Building - saw some great copper pans and bowls there - still wish to this day we had bought them.
