TimA:surfisup1000:TimA: I would stay way clear of trademe for new items. The amount of times i know people that have a warranty claim and it gets denied or ignored...
Please do yourself a favor and go retail.
Doh! I just bought a new item off tradme ....its on the way already. the merchant did take credit card though, maybe that is a good sign that they are verified by the banks.
Probably used the trademe checkout. Dont need to be no merchant.

I did not know that.
So, traders can accept credit card without being properly vetted by the issuing bank?
Does this mean that you do not get the usual credit card protection?
Mark: I'm maybe being overly cautious, so I thought I'd see what you guys and girls think ...
I'd like a new gas over/hob and over on TradeMe there is a nice sounding item :

But I've got an uneasy feeling about the seller after looking at their trade history, they've got a fair number of "Fantastic Trade!" reviews from $1.00 items (seems to just be a pamphlet sold again and again).
I've asked if I can pick up and pay at the same time, but they said I'd have to pay first .... am I being overly paranoid ?
trig42: Get someone to drive up Franklin Road in Ponsonby. The number on their website (94) shows as a lawyers office on StreetView, but that Lawyers website does not have a street address, so she may have vacated sometime between the Google car prowling and now.
Still says they are very new, and I think the $1 'brochures' are a dodgy way of increasing feedback - who would buy a $1 e-brochure on choosing whiteware?

It does not. You can still chargeback a transaction if the product is not delivered or is significantly not as described, and Trademe would face a hefty inquiry/chargeback fee. Alternatively, I'm sure if you contact Trademe with any concerns they will refund you if all goes pear shaped as they would want to avoid the chargeback hit.

idle: I would not be confident about Eurotech Design honouring a warranty. Last year a dishwasher basically started to fall apart within warranty period, and Eurotech gave us a very hard time. They refused to honour the warranty after employing a local tradesman to assess the appliance. The local tradesman did not wish to lose their custom and gave a non-committal report. Next thing was we got an e-mail from Eurotech Design to say the dishwasher " had been damaged by use"! Had to go back to the retailer and, to the retailers credit, they made a point of honouring the warranty, especially after we pointed out that no-one had told us "not to use it"!
