KieranReid: The Warehouse is actually very good with returns, I'm yet to find a better policy out there "The Warehouse has a 12-month Money Back Guarantee with printed proof of purchase."
http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/content/homepage/customer-services/returns-policy

The only downside is slumming it to actually go in there...!

I hate the Warehouse, the stores are always a shambles. I avoid if at all possible.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

My company offers a one month try before you buy.
I will actually install your pc and you can use it for a whole month and if you don't like it return it.
This applies to all hardware I sell.
I invoice after one month to make sure that you are not sticking with a purchase you don't like just because of the money.
So it doesn't get exploited I do have strict policies around that condition, however.

I have successfully returned products to Noel Lemmings. If they give me any hassle I remind them of their obligations under the consumer guarantees act and show them how their product wasn't fit for the purpose.

I had to return a slip case for my MacBook there the other week. I bought it on the basis that it clearly stated it was designed for "13" MacBook Pro retina" and found that my laptop shifted about way too much in the case and it didn't fit properly at all.

At first they said I could have a gift card (we were one day out from the 14 days as I had been away!) but I insisted that as the goods were not fit for purpose I was eligible for a full cash/EFTPO refund under the CGA and they quickly capitulated.

I am pleased that people send back returns if the product is not suitable.

I think our retail standards would improve alot if people did return purchases rather than just dumping them or passing them on.
By returning items that are faulty or not fit for the purpose, would be saying to retailers - hey we are paying top dollar for this stuff, we want quality, not cheaply made junk, we have high standards......
A lot of poor quality products are sold here because sadly there is a market for them.
You don't need pride, standards or morals to make cheap junk.

I began avoiding the warehouse when they started charging for plastic bags.

I'm not sure if the stores are a shambles -- you can usually find what you want by heading to the appropriate section and most stuff is stacked/presented in a non-lethal way.

Trademe - was my opinion. But I guess there wouldn't be a need for Trademe if there wasn't cheap junk.
Trademe could become a place to exchange better quality products and the rejects can go to Wheedle.
Plastic bags.  I am very anti paying for bags especially when one bag costs 5 cents which you can't physically pay cash for.

I have been told by a paknsave staff member that if you use the scanners you can enter in zero bags regardless of how many you need and that is OK.

I did to. It annoyed the hell out of me at both Borders (now closed and acquired by Whitcoulls) and the Warehouse, and I consciously avoided them both afterwards.

Esp when at Borders I spent more than $200 on 5-6 books before Christmas using EFTPOS, it was pouring down with rain, I had to walk back to work with the purchase, and I had no cash on me. Made the purchase and was handed receipt. I pointed out that it was raining, I didn't want sodden books, so could I have a plastic bag please - of which there was a pile by the counter. They insisted they had to charge me something like 15 cents (after what I had just spent), and I had no cash and they wouldn't EFTPOS an amount as small as 15 cents. Since I didn't want to get back to work with $200+ of papier mache instead of books I needed a bag, and it took 10 minutes and the manager before I finally got one miserable plastic bag out of them. Which probably cost them less than 2 cents. Along the way the very sanctimonious sales woman lectured me on how I shouldn't request a plastic bag, "because of the environment".

Told them I wouldn't be back again. And I never purchased there again. Browsed a few times, but deliberately went elsewhere to buy, even when they were cheaper. With customer service like that, I was unsurprised that they folded.

Agreed!
The thing is, poor quality products are sold but they are also purchased...
And it's up to the individual not to simply choose the cheapest item in every category.

Konka/Veon TV's / cheap Android tablets / free ISP provided routers / $40 throw away printers are some of the gadgets that I despise.
Yet people seem to see them and think BARGAIN!!!!

At least they have bags. Bunnings don't and want you to rat thru a pile of nasty cardboard boxes to get something to transport your purchases. They don't even have a pile of those ridiculous "reusable" ones to buy for an obscene amount anymore.

Of course you could enter any number you want - but at the end of the day it's no different to simply deciding not to scan a product and put in in your pocket. It's theft.

The Constellation Drive Bunnings had a good 20-50 of them last weekend they were hung up along where they keep their boxes.
