Before I embarrass myself can I ask if people know

The website says apart from x and y customer can return product within 14 days in exchange for a gift card.

Does it mean if you had unboxed and used your tv or your kettle or your android phone etc you can put it back in the box and get a gift card in return for any reason? Am I missing something?

It says on the web site .....

"14 Day Right of Exchange

The customer can return any product for an exchange or Noel Leeming or Bond + Bond Gift Cards within 14 days of purchase, on the condition that the product is returned in its original condition with packaging and invoice.

Products below are excluded from this guarantee, except where they are faulty:
Personal Care Items
Headphones
Gift Cards, Sim Cards, Recharge Cards and Vouchers i.e. iTunes
Unsealed Printer Cartridges
Software"

I guess its up to the interpretation of original condition.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Original condition would probably be unopened and unused, so it can be resold as new. Although you would then expect it to say unopened. Open to interpretation and unclear comes to mind. Tat said I have returned something that I tried out for a credit, although it was still in perfect condition..

This policy dates back to around 2005/2006 at least, back then opened/barely used was acceptable, especially if you had good reason to return something. I'd imagine similar applies today.

Theirs has always been basically new unused condition. Dick smith used to have opened/used but with all packaging, refund within 14 days - still at the managers discretion if need be though But they scrapped it entirely, because people buy a TV and home theatre to watch the game, and then take it back after.

As long as you have the original box, manuals etc - then yes you can return it for gift card (does not matter if you have open the box or used it for a short while).

If you notice, some of their stuffs sold with a note saying that the box has been opened, eg - customer return because need "modem" not router etc..

I might give their head office a call to confirm one way or other.

If it is unused you'd think they'd say unused. Otherwise why specifically state unsealed ink cartridges.

Who knows, maybe just a gimmick.

I know I once returned a camera (to NL) after taking it home and trying it out (and finding it not suitable). We did "return it" but got another model from the same store.

There were not arguments about it having being used etc.

I'm surprised how few retailers make a big thing of offering excellent return policies etc as a way of setting themselves apart.

I know a lot of people in the USA who cannot choose between 2 or 3 cameras will order all of them, use them for a week or so and return the ones they don't want for refunds. I presume those returns get sold somehow too.

This is the big question, though. What does ultimately happen to returned units? Are the retailers able to return them back to the supplier, or do they get sold again as 'new' at full price despite having possibly been used for a week?

(Obviously I have met aggro CSRs who will literally bulk up their shoulders walk into your face and spit at you (by talking) trying to intimidate you into submission - that's my experience of a lot of NL CSRs - not sure why. My stereotypical HN CSRs - "I've got this one at home" - obviously you own the store LOL)
