I don't understand why iParcel is so slow - Amazon ships to them quite fast (usually within 24-48 hours of order, than it sits with them for 4-8 days before they ship it (from whence it usually takes about 5 days to arrive and be delivered here in NZ).
It almost seems as though they are being deliberately slow, maybe so that more people will choose the more expensive shipping options?
It could be that a low volume of shipments to NZ means planes don't fly this way very often. Though combined with Australian deliveries you'd expect it would be more often than their tracking suggests.
It could just be a rubbish tracking system, the parcels could leave their warehouse immediately and go via hubs like Germany or via Australia.
All in all, it's cheap slow delivery, and you can pay more if you want it faster.

Likely they wait to combine shipments. And their tracking system isn't always accurate. Amazon isn't conspiring to make you use another courier service, neither of which are owned by Amazon (afaik).
Since iParcel have different tiers of shipping, they artificially hold parcels to make sure that things are delivered close to (or on) the expected delivery day. Mine arrived today after being held for 8 days in the USA and then a further 6 in Auckland, however as I only paid $9NZ for postage the delay was fine.

I find this unlikely. It's more likely that they combine shipments as D W suggested. The more you pay, the less time they can afford to wait and smaller shipments they can afford to combine (bulk discount will be less if they don't fill a container for example, so for cheaper shipments they hold until they have an entire container filled)
I would rank iParcel slightly above pigeon carrier given the many bad experiences I've had with them. Even with one shipment Amazon ended up sending the order twice. The bad experience as put me off and back to freight forwarding services like Youshop where there is more certainty on receiving the item
