Power still on in Sunnynook. Only went out for 5 min previous storm. Got the Fibre ONT, router, network switch and wifi AP all on a 100AH backup battery. So if the power fails the internet will still be working at my place. Some of my neighbours had no power for 4 days due to a failed phase after the previous storm. The power company replaced the blown fuse in the transformer. Marked the fault as fixed in the Vector system. The fuse blew again 5 min later. And no one could report it again due to the fault phone lines being jammed from everyone complaining about no hot water.

If the power fails I will be doing a speedtest over WIFI to see what speed you can get with an uncongested 2.4Ghz band.

Still a wee bit windy. Our power went off at about 9 last night, still not back. Since we are on tank water, it means we have no water. I filled a couple of buckets last night before the power went, so at least I could have a wash this morning.

Over it today, but hopefully the boat trip home tonight will be fun (no fun coming in this morning because we were travelling with the wind).

Windy but not wet in Pukekohe.
It was extremely windy during the night, about 1:40am it started to pick up.
The TV aerial is above our bedroom and it was like sleeping with a didgeridoo playing all night.
It has settled down to a mild gale now.

tardtasticx: Well to be quite honest most of the news reports were talking about places north of Auckland. But it is still a big weather event in any case.

Let us know when you start having storms every week that tear roofs off peoples homes, then maybe your point will be relevant :)

Homes in Wellington are built for the weather, any fragile roofs are long gone. Same with trees that threaten major power lines, long gone. It's just preparation really.

Zippity: Lead story of TVNZ One 110.30pm News tonight - big deal!

We frequently gets those little breezes here in Wellington, and do the Jaffas give a toss?

NO WAY..........................................

Decided to flag the ferry this morning at 6AM due to wind and rain - apparently the east auckland ferry service was cancelled.

Still a bit windy and cold but ok now.

Glad I nailed down some loose bits last storm - that wind last night was pretty major out west.

Wellington frequently hits the headlines when the weather is bad.
Aucklanders watch it and understand.
I have never heard an Auckland make these sorts of comments about the rest of the country to be honest.
As a former South Islander (born and raised for the first 30 years of my life) I dont get this negative Auckland thing.

Shades of Money Python's Four Yorkshiremen Sketch . A case of weather envy?

Still windy here (Auckland) but not as bad as the last big blow. Nothing left to get damaged at home really. The bits of the fence that were on their last legs got blown over last time.

lol.

Wind, you call that wind? You were lucky! In my day we had so much wind it would blow gravel off road before we got to eat it.

Usual clutch of power outages around the rural Rodney district, Power was up n down 5-6 times just prior to 7pm and then no power last night from around 7pm until it was restored in the wee small hours.

Turned off the power to the puter and AV devices - these up n down's and spikes can't be too good for the electronics. UPS on the server went flat ...

Power also went off briefly twice this morning whilst in the shower ... thank goodness the waterpump has a pressure chamber to supply a few seconds more water :-)

tardtasticx: Little windy here in Wattle Downs (about 5-10 min south of Manukau, South Auckland). Someones wheelie bin fell over, I can hear it sliding around on the street. Little bit wet but nothing major. Feel bad for the rubbish men tomorrow though, poor buggas.

Edit: Still have power though, internet is stupid slow, perhaps everyones downloading shows to watch on the laptop incase it does go out all together. Light flickered not so long ago though, fingers crossed it holds out :D

i live in wattle downs :)

my house is at the end of a long street, so in the morning someones recycling bin had fallen over and blew it all up to my front door. lovely.
