Mark: Anyone got some coping strategies when encountering stupid people ?

I'm struggling, and for some reason I'm not allowed to club them to death with the nearest chair! :-(

If it's work related, I remind myself that their ignorance is my job security. If it's just general stupidity/ignorance, they are usually gullible too which makes for endless fun if you're the kind of person who can keep a straight face while taking the mickey out of them. :P

Yes it's a bit of work related annoyances, not the customer just a third party in the mix ... no matter, I'm sure I can find a deep enough pit to hide the body ....

That said .. does seem a lot of stupid going about lately, have they over done the mix in the chem trails this week ?  ;-)

i used to have the stupidest boss ever.

They'd do stuff like mailing out contracts and CV's to everyone on their mailing list.  Then, realising their mistake would send another email asking everyone not to read and delete.

People would groan when they saw this person entering their office.

Dealing with this person -- i'd just go along with whatever they said as there was no point arguing.

[edit] this was overseas so kiwis off the hook :)

KiwiNZ: first up they may not know IT but that does not make them stupid. I had a rule at the teams I managed and it was on the walls as plaques, that is " we do not speak ill of our customers" it actually changed attitudes and made life easier.
Everyone has knowledge sets and one just has to take that into account.

I wouldn't refer to someone as stupid simply for lacking subject-specific knowledge.

I remind myself at work if they are billing $500+ an hour they probably aren't stupid, they just have a different skill set.

I find the liberal use of sarcasm in these situations has a great ability to lighten my outlook

I think of stupid in terms of Maths where

one 1/2 wit + another 1/2 wit does not equal a full wit

therefore any interaction with a 1/2 wit must diminish your own intelligence

I resigned and went self employed....!

I minimise the amount of visits to retail establishments, shopping in the US etc whenever possible.

I stay out of pubs.

Totally with you on clubbing them!!

Who said it was related to IT, this is the Off Topic forum.  Nothing wrong with a bit of lighthearted fun mocking stupid people in my view.

What else are they for if not that?

KiwiNZ:  so I put added liquid Sena in the Coke.

This implies that there is already liquid Sena in Coke? Wouldn't surprise me.
