Just chiming in...

We got a Paradox about a year ago. It was a bumpy ride at first with a combination of Paradox having to re-write some email string and also it seemed the security company hadn't installed an IP module before but over all pretty happy with it. Run the app which I think is too expensive ($13 I think) but really it's good enough. The alarm emails when there's an issue. Seems pretty robust and is a pleasure to use. Can even install your own images as screen savers on the touch panel. It's super easy to work with zones if you need to bypass etc.

A short time ago, we had been doing renovations so had a few zones bypassed while relocating some sensors. At completion I tested the alarm after not being used for a month or so. It was polling but not getting a reply and thus failed to register with Paradox Myhome and the App wouldn't work. They had changed something at their end and our alarm nedded re-registering. The annoying thing was I couldn't fix it myself as it had to be done by the licensed technician blah blah blah. The installers were pretty good and attempted to use Teamviewer to remote in but, being on Mac is a massive brick wall. The Paradox software is Windows only. The tech had to come out and do it but was fine. A 2 minute job.

Less headaches if you've got a PC.

Really it's pretty sweet. Best of luck with it all.

ugh, yah ok I don't need that then :)

I'll stick to having a german shepherd in the back yard, though he costs almost that to feed :)

I was a security system installer for a major player in New Zealand for some time, and it is my honest experience that electricians do not make the best alarm installers.
Now, granted some electricians may be just fine, but most of the installs I have seen done by electricians have ranged from "that'll work" to "WTF were they thinking?"

Installing alarms isn't just running some cables and putting sensors up. There is a real science behind it, and an experienced security tech will agree.
Having the right sensor in the right place is very important, and using a good quaility detector is also important.
Cat5e is not for alarms - I saw that all the time, yes it's cheap, but it's not a good idea, trust me.

You won't be able to buy the Paradox or Bosch range from their official suppliers in NZ, but there are less fussy people that will sell you them, no questions asked. Good luck getting support from them.
I installed Bosch for years, but in my house I have now I have a Paradox with an IP unit that I installed before shifting to my new job.
I like the Paradox range, Bosch is also good, but from my experience I would choose Paradox. Admittedly I went a little overboard with my alarm, input and output expander, touch screen keypad, IP module....

If you insist on doing the install yourself, please for the sake of your sanity and your neighbors, find a good security technician and ask him questions on what NOT to do.
ie, don't aim PIR's at windows, don't put smoke detectors near the kitchen or bathroom, how to mount PIR's (mount them against the wall at the right height).
There are so many ways to do things wrong, I've seen so many I have a rather large photo collection of them.

I have a neighbor across the road that refuses to do anything about the alarm that always goes off at 2pm on sunny days - everyone ignores his alarm.....
