Hi guys, I searched IP & house alarm and most of the previous forums are too old circa 2012 etc around the house alarm topic.

Please i'm looking for personal feedback as to what is the best WIRED IP CAPABLE HOUSE BURGLAR ALARM, with respect to remote ability in additional to the obvious of being a really good house alarm e.g. its primary function which should include all legacy capabilities.

I'd like;

- 4-8 zones
- $500-1000 kit only
- email notifications
- ideally push notifications
- LED keypad
- remote access via internet & LAN
- calls my phone

I know there's bosch, paradox, Micron and possibly DSC as options but the space is a mine field only clear when someone has one and you discover the pitfalls.

I checked out the app capabilities  for Android and my first view is Paradox look the best amongst the few?

Paradox
  - looked like ok functionality with respect to remote capabilities, emails,  turn on/off, night alarm etc
  - Did notice in comments, no DDNS so you need to know the IP address to access remote (duh?),
  - apparently no push notifcations, only email notifcations.

Bosch
  - Users were generally slating this alarm and its poor internet capable functionality

Micron
- Seemed basic on/off, night alarm functionality and although I have microns now, I thinking I'll be better future proof with an internation brand with international scale with respect to development, R&D. The legacy microns I've had were good though.

DSC
- Not sure

Lastly I'd want to install it myself, or at least have the installer codes because I have to maintain it being out of a main center.

Appreciate any advice or product offers.

cheers

Paradox has Paradoxmyhome for DDNS ( http://www.paradoxmyhome.com/ )

The app is expensive for something with no push notifications.

I have a paradox 5050 ip system that I installed myself.

Hey thanks. Where can  I source it (or where did you source it at what pricing, and do you have the installer sheets or programing guides, or where would i get those from.

Are you happy with the general performance and capability?

Paradox and Bosch have very good units.

You'll struggle to buy either (assuming you're planning on installing one yourself) as they're only sold to licensed security installers.

I have a monitored Bosch alarm which works well. It's IP with a cellular backup, to the monitoring station. I can't have it alert me right now, but I'm told it's possible if I get rid of monitoring.

Hi thanks.

Yes it seems its narrowed down to Bosch or Paradox.  I dont neccesarily mind paying for install but it would be better to do it myself as being rural regional (waihi beach) you kind of need to be able to maintain your own stuff as some people just don't want to drive from Tauranga for a job there.

I guess there's always ebay, US proxy mailer, or maybe an installer that will sell direct outside the region.

The Bosch Android app doesnt seem to have good reviews with only 13 reviews and only a thousand down loads.

Paradox reasonable reviews , and 10 thousand downloads.

Possibly gives Paradox the edge?

I work for a licensed Security company in Tauranga. (But not as an installer) Have a look at our website and drop us a line if you wish to know more. www.nutech.co.nz

I installed a Paradox EVO192 I got off trademe and am very happy with it. Lots of features and has been 100% stable (not that I'd expect anything different from any of the big brands). For some of the extra modules (ip150, RTX3) I've brought them off ebay (someone in Bulgaria) and they have been shipped to me cheaper than the list prices of local distributors (assuming that they would sell to me which as per the previous post I'm guessing they wouldn't).

Would recommend this alarm, however, I have not had any experience with Bosch alarms.

Just be a bit careful if you are installing an alarm yourself and expect a discount on your insurance because of it. Most insurance companies will only discount your premium if it is "Professionally" installed.

If you do get it professinally installed, and want to make sure you have the ability to make changes/additions yourself, make sure to get all the install/setup codes for your alarm from the installer. Some companies will not give you these so make sure they are willing to give them to you before the installation.

I asked State Insurance what discount they'd give for a professionally installed alarm, it was so low I didn't even bother to claim it. I expect that if I forget to turn the alarm on and was robbed they'd deny the claim if I had the discount.

Hey thanks re installer codes, yes I am  aware of that trick & just included that up front in an installer query.

Its part of the whole wall garden thing but as technology progresses you cant stop it, and as an IT person we want to be able to maintain our own devices, that we've paid our own money for.

I see the other conflict on the horizon in this area is there's reduced need for"monitoring services" with push notifications, remote CCTV and so forth.  Its another example of how the internet is changing industries and you cant stop it.

Electricians (for reasons that make no real sense) don't need a security licence.

As for buying an alarm from Ideal - yip anybody can do that. You won't get a Paradox though, best you can hope for is a Micron. Paradox like other high end companies are very particular about who can access their products.

As far as I am aware, anybody involved with the sale, advice, implementation and installation of any security device needs to have a valid security guards license. This includes IP cameras & access control.
I would be very surprised if electricians are exempt.

Providing you're a registered electrician you're exempt from any additional security licencing requirements.
