I hope you scrutinise the origins of all your clothing and shoes, then...

I try to keep an eye on what I buy, yes.

And if you are wondering if customers can change the policies of a company, just look at the story of Nike

There is no reason not to speak up and vote with your wallet when companies don't act ethically.

Sure there is - not caring if they act ethically is a reason!

I am sure you really mean not caring if they act unethically towards someone else.:)

Like JWR pointed out. Even if you are only looking out for number 1, and especially for service companies, it might be worth keeping in mind that companies that don't mind screwing people over - are probably not going to mind screwing you over. And that might be something you care about? ;)

Oh, and if you wonder what Uber thinks about your right to privacy? Then you should read this

Quote:
Uber views its customers with as much clinical abstraction as it does its critics: seeing a series of 1s and 0s shuttling around its systems; mere increments to be totted up and toyed with — via party games like God View. (God View, in case you missed this particularly egregious display of anti-privacy behavior, is the real-time interface used by Uber employees to look down upon the movements of its customers — a system it has shown off at parties without gaining permission from the people whose movements were being put on public display). But then when you’ve decided your business strategy demands donning a Doctor Evil mask it’s probably pretty easy to forget where the latex ends and the skin begins.
