We bought a puppy this year and ended up going with Pet'n'Sur. The changes to Ellenco, now Southern Cross, meant plans had changed that family currently used and were not quite as good. No biggie, cover was similar and we had many friends with pets who use them also.
One of the best things we got from our vet (Pet Doctors) was their FitPet plan. This has meant that we received back the costs of microchipping, desexing, vaccinations etc. It has also meant that we can just ring and rock up with our dog for anything out of the norm. We are first time owners so needless to say we have used this wuite a lot. Like a week ago where the dog decided to cover the garden in his recently digested dinner. Was really good to be able to just ring and they fitted us in. Highly recommend this and you are covered at any of their Vet locations.

OK - I'm gobsmacked. I come from a different era - where the existence of "pet insurance" or the concept of giving a 10 YO dog THR was absurd, or prosthetic testicles to "preserve it's self-esteem" laughable. Times change. Good luck. I'd still recommend that basically the same question is asked of a vet as should be asked of a surgeon before deciding on having any major or elective procedure - "if you were in my position, what would you do?" The answer given may be a surprise.

I was thinking of signing up my dog with Southern Cross when I joined with them for my health insurance, but in the end I didn't sign up because my dog is really old (there's a rule about signing up dogs older than 7 years). If I get a new dog in the future I'll be signing it up when it's still young.
