Growing up as a Star Wars kid I was hugely disappointed with the prequel movies.

I have a new hope with these movies coming up. I hope JJ can strike the right balance between his artistic styles and the universe we know and love and that we are returned to those great feelings from the original movies.

Starwars 4-6 are the only starwars movies in existence, I've mentally blocked out this other things. Trailer shows much promise

Being old enough to recall seeing the original as a boy with my late father at the Odeon in Leicester Square, I'm excited (a) to see a film being made that isn't Marvel, an adapted teenage girls book or split into many parts for no reason and (b) looks like it might help erase the hideous memories of the prequel nightmares and Jar Jar, for whom I harbour a special hatred that can only be satisfied when his head is in my Trophy Room..!!

Agree with all the comments I'm reading above.

Keeping a sense of time line would be good.  In the prequels R2 had little rockets and could fly, but then 20 years later that doesn't happen anywhere.

I saw a clip on youtube recently of the yoda light saber duel scene and it might a well have been an animated movie/computer game cut scene.  So friggen bad, the CGI or VFX nowadays were terrible.  I'm glad to see a conscious move towards more physical props in what I've read on this one.

Jaxson: One thing that mega urked me on the review was the colour grading of the 'white' storm troopers in the ship.  Now it may all be in context, with the lights in that area being aqua, but we shall see.  Rates well up there with the lens flares and shaky cam these days.

They are proper old school white on the planet so I hope that stays, but to see another blue/green in the shadows and orange tan for people faces would drive me nuts.

Example 1

Example 2

Also, why does the 'new' lightsaber look like a fire sword instead of a lightsaber?

modern film colour is a direct result of the awful instagram effect.

take good raw footage and tweak until its unwatchable.

new lightsabre looks more dangerous to the user than the object its being used on.

I think this film is designed to appeal more to those people in their 30-40's who saw the originals as a child. The fact that they have the millenium falcon in it, which was considered 'space junk' 30 years prior, doesn't really make that much sense, apart from being a big tie to the original movies. ALso how they are having the original actors in it, makes it seem more like a reunion film. I am sure it will be quite good, but I think it will be a lot more raw, and darker than the originals.

The light sabre was done that way probably to protect the persons hand, as they have a knack of losing their hands when fighting with them. But I think it would have made more sense for it to be a circle protecting the hand, rather then making it like an old fashioned sword.

i like the grade, especially the millennium falcon's propulsion system, the whites are toned down and warmed up nicely

Jaxson: I do like some of the styling, as I can see hints back to the original trilogy in there.  It never made sense that they had all these fluid terminator 2 shapes in the prequels and crashed back to some retro square designs in the originals.  If JJ can control the urge to lens flare everything and shake the camera constantly, then it might gel better than the prequel series ever did.

At first I thought it was a fansine thingy. Also reminds me of the original style of the trilogy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it is! Sigh now if  only Harrison Ford was not too old to play Han Solo again:-(

Despite the fact they've already stated they will not be following the established EU plotlines, it looks pretty clear they've also understood a number of the points that have made said EU wildly popular, while the prequels have been largely derided. As ever, the Falcon looks like a hunk of junk, but has some pretty serious history and emotion attached, and hey.. she's the fastest ship in the fleet ;)

As for the saber style shown, there is some established concept of a lightsaber crossguard, it just seems they've implemented it a bit unusually...

freitasm: Benedict Cumberbatch as the bad guy again? Didn't he play the same on Star Trek? Do we need more lens flare?

Lens flare? You want lens flare?
Lens Flare

(Edited because I couldn't get the damned YouTube video to embed in this post.)

Needs more lens flare.
