richms: If I pay a store a fee to have a parcel delivered to my house, then that is all I am prepared to pay.

I have on the last few occasions sellers have used crap couriers that just left a card, or in some cases didnt do anything have just told the sellers to refund me in entirity as I dont have the goods at my location as I had paid for. Not had to get to the chargeback stage yet.

No way I will be paying an addidional charge to have the courier do their job if I was not advised of it ahead of time. If that was part of the sale conditions I would shop elsewhere.

This is why I can see people contacting the seller when they are told they would haves to pay extra to have it redelivered, and if they don't pay, the goods being returned back to the seller, which would them require them to resent again.

I reckon someone like the warehouse or a supermarket chain should do the whole Amazon Lockers thing they do in the states. Book a locker online, pay what ever per day of holding the goods. Rock on up in their hours (usually 8.30-10pm).

ajobbins: I can understand this and don't have a problem with the concept when the courier makes a genuine attempt to deliver, but you aren't available so has to come back. That costs them time and money.

The problem I do have is that most of the couriers are so bad at actually making a genuine delivery attempt, that people may end up having to pay for redelivery in cases where a lazy courier just cards you rather than trying to deliver etc.

I can see delivery attempts being videoed in the future, to prove an attempt was made. It is pretty simple with a pocket cam.

Well its pretty easy to video them not deliverying with a CCTV camera and a DVR but they still dont give a toss that the drivers are just backing up to the mailbox and stuffing a card in it that was already filled out.

Had it happens so many times in the past - claiming that I wasn't home and leaving a card. One day I actually got fed up and rang the courier company up - "oh, but he tried" to which I said, "that is impossible, I had just come home from an overnight shift and I was sitting in the lounge room, which is within earshot of the door, and no one attempted to knock on the door". Honestly, this is the sort of crap that annoys me, creeping around at 5am to drop off 'card to call' so then courier drivers can get onto the more exciting corporate courier deliveries during the day because god forbid knocking on the door of a plebs house.

I have CCTV on my letterbox, it came in handy the last time a CourierPost delivery driver claimed he dropped something off when he hadn't (it turned out to be a genuine mistake, he delivered it to my neighbour whose 10 year old daughter took it inside). NZ Couriers do seem to be the worst though, there was one driver up in Chch who once signed for a parcel from Computer Lounge himself (while I was home) and left a couple of SSDs in my letterbox and threw a couple of other parcels at the front door. Out of 5 deliveries in a row he stuffed up or did something wrong on 4 of them, Computer Lounge were really good though and offered to use CourierPost for my stuff.

I've had a spate of courier drivers leaving card to calls when we were home, no gate, no dog no real excuse and we have CCTV but the courier companies dont really care when you complain.

Try complaining to the person or company who sent it as they're the ones paying the money to the courier company, they tend to have an accounts manager with the courier who can get a wind up.

NZtechfreak: Sounds like a rort to me, given the number of times couriers have popped one of those 'attempted delivery' cards in our letterbox when people are obviously at home and no real attempt has been made whatsoever. Which courier company was this?

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the thread title. They especially love to leave notices for my parents who live down a long ROW, and it used to happen every now and then at our old flat. A couple of times I was in the kitchen (which looked out across the driveway and was right next to the front door) at the time they supposedly attempted to deliver... didn't see or hear anything.

CourierPost (NZPost) are trialling weekday evening deliveries, for a small additional fee - I wonder if the move to redelivery fees in the industry is designed to encourage people to pay extra for Saturday or weekday evening deliveries.

richms: IMO they need to have 2 or 3 late nights for parcel collection and get it sorted so they can just text you if a parcel is there and forget the whole card thing. Then you can just swing by on the way home and get it.

This is madness. It doesn't actually cost that much for more a courier to redeliver. They are passing the neighbour every single day anyway and they only ever make 2 genuine attempts to deliver anyway (after that they make you collect from depot). Couriers are already too lazy to deliver properly so this just makes them even less inclined to make a genuine delivery attempt (financial gain from falsified delivery attempts).

Cant do signature required to a parcel pod, and almost all my aliexpress and ebay parcels come needing signature, As do most of my purchases from within NZ from technology companies.

NZ post do so many things that people need who cant get away during work to do, I just cant understand the short trading hours for Nz post or any of the couriers depots for collection.

Personally, I get all things like that delivered to my work address.  Have been doing this for several years, and multiple employers and workplaces, and never had a problem.  Some employers have had a separate process for signature delivery parcels too (as in the company signs with the courier, emails me, I go to the post room, and then sign the company tracking register on collection).

NZ posts normal delivery, they don't come to your door, because they aren't allowed to leave their bike, so those parcels always end up with a card in the box to say they attempted delgviery, but they never do. Unless ou are waiting by the front gate at the letterbox, you will always have to pick it up from a postshop, and it will always be the next day. The system is a bit of a mess. Perhaps courier companies could band together have have pickup places around the city.
