Whangaparaoa Plaza has Jacs bar attached to it with internal and external access to it but Westfield Glenfield has Mavericks attached to it, but only external access I believe. Its just upto the mall owners/management I guess.
I wouldn't notice if a mall had a bar or not unless it was one of those annoying establishments who think everyone wants to listen to their crap music. I never frequent bars so just would notice them.
Glenfield and Albany both have bars (Albany multiple), but while they are part of the mall building, their entrances are external (primarily to allow them to set different hours to the mall proper). From what I've seen it's about 50/50 with bars and malls.
zOMG - this thread fills me with a feeling of deep horror. There'd need to be a shop dispensing something much stronger than alcohol to make a shopping trip to a mall with SWMBO tolerable. For you younger ones, it's something which needs to be clarified at the pre-nup stage of things. Right now it might be a tolerable activity - or at least not worth the drama which would ensue if you resisted - but as the years go by you'll probably end up having to go hand in hand to macrame or ikebana classes - or even worse places where men should absolutely never go or could never go with dignity. It needs to be very firmly nipped in the bud. I'd absolutely include in that list the "cruise ship" - a floating shopping mall with bedrooms, contaminated with norovirus, and no chance at all to escape alive.
