Just wondering why I have never seen a bar in a mall , I have mentioned many times as I am sure thousands of other men have this very question.
Especially this time of year when we get dragged around all the shops.

Are bars not allowed in malls ??.

Note. Never seen any in the malls I have been in maybe there are some that I am not aware of.

Seen plenty of them overseas and they are always full of blokes who have abandoned all hope and slunk off to the bar for a beer while the wife/partner shops.

There is a Foundation Bar at Te Awa shopping mall in Hamilton. Also Hoyts cinema has a bar/lounge area in Te Awa as well.

Do whatever you want to do man.

there are 2 in Papamoa Plaza.  1 at side by back entrance and another around the side further back next to computer shop.  Hate having to go past as people smoking outside and drinking, makes me cough badly.  Hopefully in new year when they start next stage of expanding they will get rid of them or move them right around the back next to the gym

Most bars at malls I've seen have some form of external frontage so they can't be access by patrons after the malls hours or operation. Never seen a bar in the mall solely in operation during mall hours though,

mall hours rarely gel with bar hours - most malls close at night.

You will usually see them attached to the outside - as is done at Westfield Albany - so they can operate when the mall proper is closed.

Other than that I assume it is up to liquor licensing board and mall corporate as to whether they are "allowed".

Would you not have to be having a meal to use their bars ??

Probably doesn't fit into the demographics of who are the main shopers at malls, eg, teens, parents etc, and it is very family orientated. Also I believe that at least with some malls, the shops pay a percentage of their turnover to the mall, so that may not fit into a bars pricing. You certainly don't want intoxicated people in malls.

Mall bar = man creche.  Just think of the damage your SO could do to the credit card while you enjoyed an hour or three.  Heck... put in a Play Station or two, and similar toys, and your SO could spend the entire day spending your hard earned cash.

I don't know the specifics, but the Blue Water Mall in Kent England has something like this, and you'll find lots of hits if you Google Husband Creche.

Some malls in Auckland have bars. St Lukes, Sylvia Park, Botany Town Centre all do.

Westfield Westcity USED TO have a Tenpin Bowling alley with a bar, but it got shut down for not checking ID and serving underage patrons.  Constantly.

Now it's a No 1 Shoe Warehouse.

Yes it does look like I need to change my malls (well convince the missus to).

Its not about having a beer really its more of a place for husbands/partners to be able to relax a little while on the intense mission that is called shopping.
