I saw this post 1 hour earlier. It was clear as BLUE AND BLACK.

Now it is WHITE and GOLD!

WHAT????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty interesting. I thought my wife was having me on when she told me it was white and gold. It still feels like an inside joke when people tell me it is white and gold. I can only see blue and black.

If it helps I was playing FPS game for 1 hour and everything looks white and gold after that. Today, I have been staring at it on off since 5.30am - still black and blue.

I have looked at this image in so many different ways, on different devices, with one eye closed, through slits in my fingers, for short periods, for long periods, blinking really quickly, different times of the day, with different lighting, in different rooms.

I can only see White / Gold.

If I look at my screen directly front-on I see white and gold. If I look at an angle I see blue and black.

Maybe it depends on the screen technology, as well as the colour settings.
Mine looks blue and black from any angle.

Up to this point I was thinking that I was seeing white/gold under natural light, and blue/black under artificial light. However now I'm suddenly seeing blue/black with plenty of natural light in the room.

This is the most bizarre thing I've seen for years!

I have now viewed this from several different sources on the same screen. I never see black but the other colour ranges from dark blue to off-white, including intermediate blue-white. Angle of screen and ambient light doesn't seem to make any difference. I first thought that the differences that did occur were just due to variations in colour calibration of the different screens. Now I'm not so sure.

Also as chromatic adaptation means our eyes/brains are very poor at perceiving "real" colour (but pretty good at detecting differences between colours) the dark art of accurate colour calibration is sold like snake oil in places where it isn't needed. It is needed when matching output device (incl. print) matters. It isn't needed to calibrate you home theatre system (unless you were doing something fancy with multiple screens) - it's better to simply adjust it so it looks good.

I constantly saw it as white and gold all through the evening yesterday, my wife has constantly seen it as blue and black.

After having had a good lay in the sun today I saw it as blue and black, but it returned to white/bluewhite and gold again after I got inside (in a matter of seconds).

What about this one?

Not really.

Colour perception is totally by the brain.

A black coal will still look black in bright sunlight, even if it is reflecting more light than a white snowball in a darkish room.

The brain knows one is black and the other white and makes it so.

Also, other cultural backgrounds see and differentiate colours differently than people living in a modern, technical world.
