The Microsoft one may be because the shipping address didn't match the payment details address. For example, non-American credit card, but US delivery address.

Except that protectionism at a country-level usually involves blocking imports from other countries, not exports to other countries.

Maybe. I was using a US credit card. It does allow you to use a different shipping address than billing address since when I changed it to my daughter's address (not my billing) it was okay. But I decided not to proceed since it was just a whim purchase anyway.

No big deal this time. I just had it sent to my daughter's apartment and I can pick it up when I am over there in a couple of months. Just have to wait before I can use it :-(

Get her to send it onto YouShop.

Why - she can just walk down to the local Post Office and send it directly and avoid Youshop handling costs :-)

As an aside I discovered the same item on Amaon for $9 cheaper and they ship to NZ for $39(US). That's probably more than Youshop based on my estimation.

I'll just wait now.

And they also block non-US credit cards.

Arranged to have the goods shipped to a friend in the US as the local supplier couldn't supply the lenses I wanted and it got cancelled saying it was using a non-US card.

Do they not want my money??

I wouldn't bet on that :-)

Just over a year ago, I imported a turntable from Amazon. While they shipped directly to New Zealand, calculations based on the stated dimensions had me thinking that it would be cheaper to ship from YouShop. When the product arrived at YouShop, it turns out that the product was placed in a larger box, and after volumetric shipping charges were applied, it was going to cost me $100 more to ship it than they had originally quoted. As a result, I returned it to Amazon (free of charge), and re-ordered it again with shipping direct to me.

When I was in the UK five years ago I found that a T-Mobile prepaid SIM couldn't be topped up with a non-UK credit card. Same with O2. It's mind-boggling!

In rgrades to the credit card thing maybe its just an anti fraud thing? Kind of like how orcon dosn't allow IP calls to originate in china
