Based on the double-episode pilot, it's fun, imo better than the original in many respects. It stays pretty faithful in many respects, while modernising it and upping the draw for the younger ones for whom the nostalgia factor is more a turn-off than on.

First 5 minutes in:

Well its def abit more action in it, i still feel the nostalgia factor even if its geared for a new generation, Loving the CGI, Not so sure on Lady Penelope's voice (i had read somewhere that the original actress was going to voice her but clearly not) Loving the original guy to voice Parker is back :D Miss Jeff Tracey though! -continues watching-

Careful there is an entire generation like myself that weren't even around when this was a thing. I enjoyed the original it but you'd find others may not share the same view.

Sylvia Anderson (original Penelope) is a guest voice as Great Aunt Sylvia. The new voice is Rosamund Pike.

this starts screenibg in channel 2 next Saturday at 7pm. Local viewers can watch "legally" then.. I hope it ends up on TVNZ on demand as my dish is still borked...

I'll avoid spoilers.

I thought it was a good go at modernising a classic while keeping the cheesy character of the original alive. For want of finding a better cluster of words, they've managed to capture the essence pretty well, I think. There are a few changes I'm not sure are on the money, but I kinda understand why they've made them. All up, not a bad job at all.

That was brilliant. I've only flicked though it but it feels like they've taken the heart and soul of the old show and just added with the new capabilities of CGI - things that I'm sure Gerry Anderson would of loved to do.

Also Thunderbirds is ~40 years old. The world, storytelling, our history are all different from then and we've be exposed to a lot more TV than some 40 years ago - some of it excellent - so our expectations are higher. If the old Thunderbirds came out today having no history, no cult following, It would be seen as cheap and cheesy. The average Geekzone user probably isn't the targeted demographic either.

By the way all the landscapes looking like hand crafted miniatures is awesome. The sand flying of Thnderbird 2's JBD before it takes off laughing

Actually, Thunderbirds is about 50 years old :)

This series is set in 2060 and the world is meant to be a better place, hence the big bad is not a nation state.

Yes! That earned them bonus points ;-)

JWR: Effects done by Weta studios here in NZ too.

Stu: Actually I think (could be wrong) it's Pukeko Pictures, not Weta. Still Sir Richard Taylor though.

A little further digging, and indications are that production companies are Weta Workshop AND Pukeko Pictures (together with ITV Studios).

Weta stuck out in bold during credits.

Also not hard to tell there was a distinct kiwi input given the repeatedly shown globe ;) That has to be a first!

Pretty good, better than the original. Although it maybe too action packed, no real downtime. Lots of stuff happening, that's my only gripe. However they've maintained a lot of the original charm and details on the Thunderbirds are great.

Now do Joe 90, reboot Captain Scarlet again with this new direction, Fireball XL5, and the Terrahawks.

The Thunderbird 'Shadow' sound interesting too :-)

I wouldn't go that far.  A lot of hours went into the making of the miniatures I'm sure.  If you take the Weta Workshop tour you can often see them working on the landscape miniatures.

Did you see the 'New Captain Scarlet' CGI version? Seems pretty decent. (Several eps are on Youtube).
