geekiegeek: The complete saga on Blu-ray is the same price.

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Complete-Episodes-Blu-ray/dp/B003ZSJ212/ref=sr_1_3?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1428449506&sr=1-3&keywords=star+wars

I have this.  Visually brilliant, but only the SE (actually even further messed with) versions of 4,5,6.

I wonder if the new star wars movie is successful, whether they will remake 1,2 and 3. 3 was okay as they learnt from 1 and 2. But really I don't consider 1,2 and 3 as part of the set, just due to how poor they were and the overuse of poor quality CGI. Although some poor CGI did make it into 3,4, and 5

Not surprised, I think they are probably the definitive way to watch the Star Wars movies. All three of them.

If you follow the thread I've not actually seen the Harmys Despecialised Editions. Given they are unofficial and have to be pirated, I'm not sure anyone will have links for you. I came to know of them when a site ran a story on the remastering that was done on them (might have been Gizmodo, interesting read).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are only 720p aren't they?

Yes, but the official Blu-rays are such an old transfer that Harmy's 720p versions look as good as the 1080p Blu-rays.

That is the best possible resolution for the true theatrical cuts. I'd take original cuts at 720p over the remastered cack at any resolution (that said, I do have them on Blu-ray since the remasters are the only ones you can buy so you might as well have them in the highest quality available).

works out around $23/movie, which isn't too bad for a new release to own,  but is absolutely crazy for:

3 x awesome movies that are over 30 years old  (the original trilogy)
plus
3  x worthless fan-made pieces of crud  (the prequals)

I have downloaded them, but haven't gotten around to watching.

If Disney did a fresh remaster of the original trilogy without all the special edition rubbish it would sell like crazy. There would have to be millions of people who haven't bought the blu-rays, but would if they were the original cuts.
