Not at all Microsoft only purchased the Nokia handset side of the business not Nokia networks

Then promptly wrecked the marketshare.  Best recent example of how to make a small fortune, first start with a large fortune. frown

It was wrecked before sold to MS

Yes, true to some extent.  Microsofts Steven Elop had made a pretty good start before the sale to Microsoft was completed.

When Alcatel and Lucent merged there were rumours the coming together of a French and American company didn't go smoothly, same can also be said when Nokia and Siemens merged. Totally different management styles and core values, not to mention all the employees thought they were going to be made redundant. (which was eventually true for some).

It will be interesting to see what an Finnish/German/French/American Joint company looks like. Hopefully the Finns take charge and make everyone else tow the line. Long term it's great for Operators and competition amongst the other big players (Huawei and ericsson), they will be able to keep up with the R&D that the other 2 are doing. Short term its crap for ALU and Nokia employees who all think they are getting the sack, not to mention the changing face of a company and the direction it may take.
