Isn't Nokia effectively owned by Microsoft these days?

Lets hope they do a better job at reading the market with the direction of network gear than they did with mobile phones!!!

I assume this is only A/LU  network side of things and not their CPE i.e. PBX and cell phone business??   I hope that they they do something with Bell labs as it's died since being bought by Alcatel.

This is pretty big news for ALU NZ, there used to be about 700 odd employees (2009ish) who were mainly working on Spark. (Not sure what the number is now, probably alot less since Huawei has taken over their mobiles side of the business).

ALU also supply companies like transpower, chours, kordia, police etc etc. Who gets to go round and put new Nokia stickers on all their kit?

Usually when a big company takes over another big company, its shortly followed by a bigger broom.

I like it, I think they both compliment each other nicley, Nokia has strong mobile product, ALU has strong fixed line and Transmisison products.

Right now Nokia has almost no mobile product, as mentioned above, they sold the mobile division to Microsoft.  However there might be mobiles Nokia's future.

Then promptly wrecked the marketshare.  Best recent example of how to make a small fortune, first start with a large fortune. frown

Incorrect, Nokia sold off their handset business to Microsoft, they retained the Network Infrastructure business, they still still make Radio Access Network Equipment (Basestations, RNC's etc)for operators such as VFNZ.

Isn't that large networking company that Nokia owns mobile related?

Na, Nokia had a small leak in their ship before MS purchased it, MS then proceeded to crash it into the largest iceberg they could find.

Does an "italian tune up" work on computers?

Makes sense for Nokia, if they didn't act they would slowly become the next Blackberry.
