Bee: Perhaps the waitress can get rid of the Prime Minister and then a new government can "get rid" of the TPPA?

You have just had a chance to get "rid" of the PM by voting in democratic elections. No point bitching about it with 2.5 years left to run.

Especially if we voted for the other guy. In fact, that increases our right to yell "Told ya so!" :-D

The waitress thing has resulted in a sexual harassment court case against Key, that leads to a serious problem with him also being our PM throughout the court case. If the opposition can get their act together and force him out, it'll be a crack that can be exploited towards preventing TPPA.

dclegg: will we get a chance to undo this?

I believe it's technically possible if we sign it, but parliament does not ratify it. Unless there's some stinger in it that says it doesn't need to be ratified or something... IANAIL. But I don't know whether parliament get to read it before they ratify it and I suspect it wouldn't matter anyway, because they will ratify it once it's been signed.

It is also possible to withdraw from a treaty, but of course then any benefits you might have gained from it are lost too.

That's what I'm hoping. In fact, it makes no sense that this wouldn't be possible. But I'm neither a politician or a lawyer.

If the TPPA is as one-sided to US corporate interests as Wikileaks claims it is, then pulling out would be a result of the NZ public realising that the damage it has caused vastly outweigh any assumed benefits (and we have to assume, as this is all very cloak and dagger (which immediately sets my alarm bells off)).

I suspect that it will be a lot easier to elect a new PM than to get rid of the TPPA once it is signed.

joker97: a new government will succumb to TPPA. you think when big brother comes to collect money the new govt will be willing to get hit?

Just don't pay it, what are they going to do invade us, because an agreement was made by what seems to me to be a government comitting treason to serve their own interests and their mates and not the country as a whole.

It will cancel out the benefits, but for most people the cost will be higher then any benefit's we get out of TPPA.

It just gives more power to the corporates and reduces sovereignty of countries.

Waitress and this one are different subjects, so don't think it's a case of which one more important, TPPA effects more people in long run, where waitress one is a question of what's appropriate behavior, but still important as it effects the people being treated in a way they don't wish to be.

Because they are spineless. Maybe apart from Helen Clark who will stand her ground

There is no doubt in my mind that Labour would sign it just as fast.

The guy who has filed, is a well known crackpot. He sues everyone for everything. I'd be very surprised if it got any traction and I would be pretty horrified if he stepped down as a result. He has a strong defence against it and it would also require witnesses to testify and it seems pretty obvious the waitress has no interest in that.
