Well?

Just asking because the prevalent "Nanny State" supporters seem to be fixated on an anonymous posting by the "Waitress".

And yet the TPPA (which I would assume affects us more) is rarely discussed here on Geekzone.

Does anybody know what the TPPA stands for? Or what it means to us here in NZ?

Are we all falling into that soft, comfortable, safe zone that the US wants us to? ........................... Is the "Waitress" a well placed and timely distraction?

I think the important question is, 'What does The Waitress think about the TPPA?'

The TTPA was discussed so may times here. My guess is these "secret negotiations" are taking this long because they want people to lose their interest in fighting it.

I am sure future generations of New Zealanders would regret if it was ever signed by this country. I am also sure our government will sign it. Regardless of orientation or party in the leadership.

The TPPA is a double edged sword, it has both advantages and disadvantages. It is sold as being vital for us to trade with Pacific Rim partners, I have real doubt's with that. Our most important market is not involved init.
It is protectionism by stealth and influence, I do not believe we will benefit from it but some sectors will.

The Australians are probably correct in assuming that its the USA's way of enforcing hard copyright laws and penalties on behalf of antiquated  movie industry moguls and artists.

I think they are both important.

Do you mean sexual position orientation? Because I know which country will get screwed!

Especially the artists who *are* moguls and wish to stay that way.

But it's not just the movie industry... really the TPPA is saying that in exchange for "free trade", NZ (and other govts) must stop protecting their citizens from the greed and rapacity of the rich and powerful.

One question I have about the TPPA. If it is signed by our current government, can a successor remove us from it?

They are essentially agreeing to [REDACTED] without any consultation. A lot of [REDACTED] as reported by Wikileaks seems very disturbing, and seems to suggest there are far more negatives than positives for our country.

Of course, we won't know for certain until it it is all signed, sealed, and delivered. If we come out of this as poorly as the Wikileaks documents tend to suggest, will we get a chance to undo this?

Perhaps the waitress can get rid of the Prime Minister and then a new government can "get rid" of the TPPA?

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

If TPPA does come into effect, and pharmaceutical prices sky rocket, goods are far more expensive due to parallel importing becoming illegal, and the new Government has to repeal or prevent anti-smoking or environment preservation measures due to multi-billion dollar lawsuits, I'd like to think they would attempt to undo the mess that the previous Government has made.

Just don't pay it, what are they going to do invade us, because an agreement was made by what seems to me to be a government comitting treason to serve their own interests and their mates and not the country as a whole.

It will cancel out the benefits, but for most people the cost will be higher then any benefit's we get out of TPPA.

It just gives more power to the corporates and reduces sovereignty of countries.

Waitress and this one are different subjects, so don't think it's a case of which one more important, TPPA effects more people in long run, where waitress one is a question of what's appropriate behavior, but still important as it effects the people being treated in a way they don't wish to be.
