ubergeeknz: From recent dealings with real estate agents, the big players won't advertise on Trade Me (it's a boycott of sorts because of the price increase), but the agents we talked to recommended that we did so because it attracts the most buyers.

However with the market as it stands, as a buyer, you really need to check everywhere for listings and "get in quick" as it were.

realestate.co.nz tends to have most of the listings which have been done through RE agents.

Only in Auckland or perhaps Chch. Trust me - the market is pretty slack elsewhere.

JimmyC: I'm in the process of selling our house privately via TM and I see a lot of other houses listed for sale by agents in our area (Miramar) so not convinced of the boycott theory. I'm sure agents may not like the fees TM charge but then I don't like the fee the agent would be charging me either hence the private sale, but that's another thread. As someone who hasn't looked at real estate in the paper in years I think online is the only way to go, and since I've seen many duplications of effort across TM and realestate.co.nz, I just went with TM.

they boycotted for a few months and so trademe backtracked a bit and met them halfway so most of the agents are back on TM, but not all.

and in each big town there are micro pockets of very hot microlocations so these go fast, but yes, in general, a bit slow in many places
