xpd: Dosent need to legally. Long as one of the parties in the call is aware of the recording, thats fine. Its when a 3rd party is recording without announcing it, it gets into legal issues....

Really, are you sure?  Interesting, and very good to know, as I have 2talk which was automatically set to record when I set it up, but I've often wondered if:

a) it was legal to record someone else like this without notifying them
b) I could use said recordings if there was some dispute with what was said by phone (not thinking of anything specific here just  something I was generally curious about)

EDIT: Huh, looks like wikipedia says the same: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_recording_laws#New_Zealand and that references the Crimes Act (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1961/0043/latest/DLM329814.html) which appears to say the same. Very good to know.

Yeah I have always wondered this, thanks for sharing.

Yep crimes act lets us record conversations as long as we are party to them. We are not allowed to set up a recorder without informing the people being recorded. *snip*
what it does mean is, for a 2talk system whére every call is recorded, everyone using your phone needs to know.

And this why you must NEVER enable sound recording on a security camera. If you do you will end up recording someone's voice/conversation that you were not part of.

Or, you could paint a black substance on canvas during the conversation and use a tone arm and stylus from a turntable to play back the embedded sound wave later.

...Or did mythbusters bust that one?
