I sent my wife out to buy one last week - a nespresso compatible one.
She came back with a MAP from Harvey Norman which uses caffitaly capsules.
After some research decided not to return it. While the caffitaly pods aren't as common (HN and Briscoes being the only retailers plus some specialty/online places - no supermarkets), the price is about the same but you get 8g of coffee instead of 5g.
Plus found that you can easily refill them - piss easy to take apart, pack in your own ground coffee and put back together with some aluminium foil wrapped over it again - good to go.
I can buy 100 purpose made aluminium tops for around $50 (50c each - not worth it) or just use aluminium foil from the supermarket but it doesn't look as professional
Have yet to find an easy refillable custom pod though
I've tried about 4 different off-brands and all of them contain stale, weak piss water coffee granules.
I think Nespresso are filled with nitrogen after/during packing, whereas the others are just filled with air, which is really stupid cause any 5 year year can you tell you anything in the air will rot.
If anyone has any good recommendations, please let me know!
That being said most knockoffs are around $7-8 and it's only $10 ish for 10 legit capsules you know are going to taste good. Whereas you honestly have no idea about the knockoffs 'til you try them..
