I spoke with a lovely, helpful lady this morning who immediately issued Noel Leeming HQ with an authority to supply a replacement. She advised that NL are charged with determining the replacement value but if I'm not happy with their suggestion(s) I should go back to her for further discussion and to potentially use a different supplier.

She marked my case urgent (because of the World Cup being on, ha!) and told me to expect a call from NL tomorrow to arrange a store visit. I'll have to pay my excess of $250 direct to the eventual supplier of the TV which seems like a good, simple solution to me... plus, my no claims bonus remains intact so long as I don't have any further claims in this cycle period.

Pleased so far with the service from State, let's see what NL come up with!

sounds about right, i had that with my camera, was a Canon 40D that was stolen and they replaced it with a 60D as that was the logical step replacement.

You should work as an insurance assessor - they'd love your attitude!

why? the kids intent wasnt to damage the TV, and its classes as an accident, which is exactly that insurance is for.

The insurance company will have a good deal going with Noel Leeming as in they will be paying a very special price, so if you go with the decision to pay a little extra to upgrade the TV they will provide you may get a shock. e.g. XYZ TV worth $1,800 will only cost the insurance $1,450 and then you take off the $250 excess and the bill to the insurance is $1,200. If you want that $2,200 tv then your up to pay $1,000 extra (inc excess).

I claimed mine through EQC, so might be different from normal insurance.

It was probably 5 years old, and cost me $4600 at the time (down from $6000) and was Sony's top model.

Can't remember exactly what I got paid, but nowhere near what I paid for it and nowhere near enough to get the latest top model of the same size.

They basically gave me enough to get a Sony TV of the same size and same feature set, which being 5 years later was a fairly low end model.

You could try arguing that in order to get the deep blacks of your previous TV you need an OLED :)

So I've had a thoroughly successful resolution on this. State have been super efficient and supportive and Noel Leeming came up with the goods too.

The process played out with a phone discussion between myself and a NL insurance customer services associate. He advised that the kicker for me in my own particular scenario was that my original Samsung TV had 3D. This factor pretty much eliminated any Samsung TV replacement (without going into the stratosphere in terms of pricing and spec) so he asked and I agreed to consider a 50" Panasonic 4K UHD 3D equivalent at $2699.

When I went along to view it in store however, I spotted it's 55" big brother, the Panasonic TH-55CX700Z, just up from it on promo at $2599. A couple of questions later determined that I could indeed have this model as an alternative as the cost wouldn't put the insurance company on either side of the ledger comparative to the 50". Happy days.

I also wanted to get the TV delivered and installed onto a wall mount, a service that I quickly discovered Noel Leeming would provide.... for $499...

Eh, no thanks...

Then, lo and behold, I spotted their mailer with the aforementioned 55" Panny on promo and including a BONUS bracket and wall mount installation worth $499!!

Long story short, I successfully negotiated this into the deal (not without flexing a good portion of my sales and management skills muscle I might add) so in the end, I paid my $250 insurance excess as well as an extra $20 to upgrade the included wall bracket from a basic flat to a tilt and that was that. I'll get a spanky new 55" 4K 3D TV fully mounted, installed, wired up to my existing devices and a walk-through of how to use the new telly for the princely sum of $270 bucks.

Not bad eh??!!??

AND.... if that wasn't enough, my wife called me about 45 minutes later to say she'd just won a MacBook Air, an iPhone 6, $250 worth of grocery vouchers and a one year magazine & newspaper subscription from a competition that she entered last week!!!

I'm off to buy a lotto ticket... :D

Thanks guys, very pleased with the outcome. Noel Leeming delivered and installed the TV yesterday and it looks pretty good in it's safely-out-of-toddlers-reach spot on the wall! :)
