Sounddude: rain on a tin roof

And the related "smell of rain hitting hot concrete".

Large snow flakes falling.

The dull silence of snow.

andrew027:

Waking up to the sound of tui in the morning.

When I lived overseas I missed it so much that I bought a CD of New Zealand native birdsong and used a tui track as the wake-up "music" on my alarm clock for a while.

I love the dawn chorus.

Saving money by fixing stuff instead of buying replacements or paying someone.

Recent successes:

  • Fault: LED clock on oven showed spurious digits, oven wouldn’t turn on.
  • Repair: pulled it to bits, electronic module consisted of one chip and a single capacitor, impossible to do any scientific diagnosis, soldered in a fresh capacitor, fixed.
  • Savings – hundreds, if not a couple of thousand
  • Fault: smashed microwave turntable (by turning it on without anything in it, but that’s another story)
  • Repair: had an old one lying around from a different make model with different size ‘cog’, hacked it with a dremel tool/glass grinding bit
  • Savings: about $60
  • Fault: thumbstick down-button failed on XBOX360 controller
  • Repair: bought replacement joystick from DX for $2 and soldered it in
  • Saving: about $60

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

floydbloke: what are the little things in life that make you smile.

Anything that annoys Geektastic, which is fairly much everything outside of the UK :-)

Oh trust me, plenty there annoys me too.

When someone says a simple "Thank you."

I'll go out of my way to make the customer happy if they were rude or nice, but it makes it all worth it when one person says thanks.

A nice, cold, very hoppy craft beer at the end of a difficult week.

Writing with a nice pen. A proper ink one, not roller ball, or even worse a crummy biro.

Being mugged by the GF's cat.

The lovely smile on the face of my very dear friend as I explained the choice of her birthday present.
