53rd Halberg Awards Supreme Halberg Award winner is The All Blacks.

Last Time All Blacks won the Supreme Award was 1987 and 2011.

The Supreme Halberg is most displeased, General. Most displeased.

It is unwise to irritate the Supreme Halberg.

I'm astonished Ko didn't win the main award. What she's doing is unprecedented in ALL golf.
I wonder what the global numbers of rugby players are to golf numbers.

Never been a fan of the Halbergs  since the All Whites got team of the year for turning up at the soccer world cup , the same year as the rugby 7s got the Gold at the Commonwealth Games..

I agree

I think Golf is the world's most popular sport by way of active players.

A kid, No.1 in the world. I agree, her performance in her sport outweighs anyone else or team by a wide margin.

To be honest until this year I'd thought it was a fashion award.

I think soccer is probably way more popular than golf, just not here.

Players - Golf

Spectators - Soccer

Thats what I recall, although no matter what I google, results are based on fans, viewing, etc, not players

I couldn't find any stats on players either but it seemed to me that if you include all the kids who play it must exceed the mainly adults who play golf.

As well as that you need money to play golf so there will be far more players kicking a ball around a dusty patch of grass in somewhere like Brazil than hitting a golf ball on a manicured green.

Totally agree it's football - I put soccer just to avoid any local confusion.

Oddly enough in the UK, an obviously football mad country, the most popular sport by a long way is apparently fishing although I'd put that in the pastime category like darts or snooker rather than sport.

There are chess championships as well but that's not a sport.

I've often thought of golf as a pastime as well especially after I saw a player having a cigarette between holes in the British Open. John Daly I think.

Darts and Snooker are sports. They do world champs and that type of thing.

I see a pastime as a pleasurable activity, and sport is competition. Many pastimes for Jow Averages for fun are sports as well, like Motocross riding, BMX as two of many examples.

That means Scrabble and Miss World are sports.
