Traditionalist
I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
I'm a Patriot. Next best fit, Egalitarian. Least like a Globalist. Interesting results! I agree with most of the results but a couple are off the mark. Looking forward to watching the Hurricanes v Blues tomorrow night and enjoying a Panhead Supercharger ![]()
Patriots pride themselves on being New Zealanders and feel a deep sense of attachment to the Kiwi lifestyle. They see Kiwi values as unique and preferable to most others, and generally think that New Zealand is the best country in the world in which to live.
Most patriots are quite fond of New Zealand’s rugby and beer culture. (Who isn't????) They have an appreciation for New Zealand’s British heritage, but believe that New Zealand is culturally distinct. They see Maori culture as having a role to play in the country’s national identity, but place greater emphasis on Pakeha culture.
Patriots emphasise personal responsibility and generally believe that all New Zealanders can achieve their goals if they work hard enough. They tend to support free market ideals and believe that individual gains increase prosperity for New Zealand as a whole.
For the record, not that it is worth much, I'm told I'm a Loyalist. I think that was 7% of NZers.
The FAQ says:
- I don’t agree with the archetype that I am associated with in my results.
The archetypes are probabilistic, not definitive. They are based on generalisations of the New Zealand population derived from a national identity study that involved more than 10,000 New Zealanders (see Methodology for details). The archetypes in the Kiwimeter are not intended and should not be interpreted as a personal profile of the user, but as a general description of the group to which the user’s views most closely align in terms of national identity. For a more user-centric perspective, the results section also offers analytics about how the user differs from their associated archetype, their Facebook friends, and New Zealanders in general.
Patriot like only 36% of Kiwis, ugh
Sceptic. Along with 5% of others.

Geektastic:
Sceptic. Along with 5% of others.
"Sceptics... tend not to express the same sense of belonging to their country and community, and are often unsatisfied with the conditions of both."
Clearly this test is exceedingly accurate for some at least!
Traditionalist for me with Sceptic being next.
My best fit is egalitarian, but looking at the "facts about this group" I'm much older than average (by a dozen years) and earn a lot more (my personal income is in the middle of the "median household income").
My next best fit is patriot and I'm least like a traditionalist.
PhantomNVD:
How does one pick all blacks over rugby (or vice versa)?
The question above is "which of the following symbols do you identify least closely with New Zealand" - it's asking about not your preference of one over the other, but essentially that which you believe has the greatest level of association with NZ. Hence I selected "All Blacks" as that is an NZ-specific subset of the wider "rugby".
Possibly easier for me, given my disinterest in this particular sport!
dejadeadnz:
I am a globalist. To be frank, I wouldn't know how to live with myself if I were somehow defined as a Kiwi patriot. I find the concept of being a patriot and all that it represents utterly reprehensible.
I am another globalist, with a minor in egalitarian and the strongest aversion to traditionalist.
It's been interesting to match up people's results with what I've picked up about them from their posts - usually there's been a strong correlation. Eg, not surprised to see dejadeadnz also classed as a globalist; and, as posted above, geektastic's classification as a sceptic perfectly sums up some of the characteristics I and others have noted in the past!
Sure, it's crude and in the end fairly meaningless, but it's also a bit of a laugh; also, going by the results so far reported, it can help confirm why I get frustrated by many posts in some of the more divisive off-topic threads here!
Another Patriot here. I'm pretty patriotic, and proud to be a kiwi most of the time (until a whole lot of drunk Kiwis do a Haka somewhere - that gets embarrassing).
Egalitarian here.
I note that the average age of all the groups is between 38 & 50 - most in the high 40's
What do the young think? - That this survey is a waste of time I suppose :P
Egalitarian for me. I am however less female, earn less and much younger than the medians for that group.
