Another vote for the Miele Cat and Dog Complete. Amazing suction and feels sturdy. Had a play with the Dysons and read a lot of reviews that were not to favourable towards them (mainly around how difficult it was to empty). Would highly recommend the Miele if anyone is in the market for a new vacuum.

The new models have a cheaper wand. I've got one of the older ones which has a 3 part telescopic wand. But they changed this to a two part wand to bring the price down as well as remove some attachments. Mine also has a small turbo brush for stairs which the newer models didn't have.

I got the baby turbo brush with my Cat & Dog

I wouldn't buy another dyson if you paid me. We have a lab x goldie that moults all year round and have to vacuum quite often.

5 minutes after using the dyson, we can turn on the LG roboking and it will pick up twice the amount of dust/dog fur the dyson got in the same area.

We now set the LG to run everyday and only use the dyson when the kelpie brings in sticks to chew into a billion pieces when we're at work yell

Having bought a Miele C4 complete, and I am very pleased with the quality of the machine.

Its very comforting to read about their great customer service.

We have a Roomba, which runs every second day (does the whole house). We supplement (maybe every 10 days) with a cheapie Nilfisk barrel cleaner. No issues at all. The Roomba picks up a lot of cat hair, and surprisingly large chunks of other detritus (mostly cat biscuits).

True, but you'd think a $900 Dyson "animal" vacuum should be able to deal with it. The LG does!

I so wish that would work for me but the pet (two large mutts) hair I vacuum up every morning would have to be seen to be believed. Plus a lot of it comes off their bean bag beds which a Roomba couldn't do.

Maybe they have put it back in. But the triple telescopic pole is definately a big advantage over the newer one, as it extends further, and you can adjust it right down. I had a cheap vacuum previously, and it was the spring that failed on the pole too, the plastic on it split and the spring had no support. Also I think it has a higher build quality. I had the choice of paying more for the older model at the time which had the additional feature, or buying the newer model which had been stripped back, which I was told by the retailer was because they wanted to get the price down to compete with the cheaper vacuums. But apart from that they are probably very similar. my only complaint about it is the high cost of the bags, and they don't really hold all that much.

We bought a Dyson DC54 Animal to replace an older Miele Cat & Dog, it is by far the worst vacuum we have ever owned and will be replacing it with a newer Miele in due course.

I think Dyson spent far too much time on researching a sucking system than making a functional vacuum cleaner for every day use. With 3 Birmans hair is constantly getting clogged within the telescopic arm, the turbo head can't suck up anything of substance otherwise it jams in the tiny little hole. The turbo head flicks things rather than sucking them, e.g. cat food and/or the little bits of kitty litter that the cats track through.

Emptying is tedious and required often but expected for a bag-less, it's dusty as no matter how hard I try keep it contained within the large plastic bag I'm emptying in to etc

Exactly what I hate about mine. I would much rather throw a cheap bag out every few months than deal with emptying that crappy bucket that seems to fill in about 5 mins 5-6 times per vacuuming, and then pulling the middle bit out to un wind hair that has wrapped around it, and banging it to get all the dust out of the small cyclones.

The dyson has to be the purchase I regret the most of any appliance. Also they say not to use it on gravel or rubble, like the kind of stuff that gets tracked inside on your shoe - well that's just f*****g useless then, do I have to clean with something else first before using it?

Next time my LG runs, I'll take a photo of the dog hair in it. :)

Agreed, I may need to rethink when we replace it. A case could be made for a robot

I have a Miele tumble dryer which is brilliant. My mother has had only AEG or Miele appliances for as long as I can recall and rarely do they need work or replacement other than for functional improvement etc. eventually.

You do pay more ( a lot for in some cases) but they are advertised as having been tested to last many years. My parents are looking at buying a range of new miele appliances for a new house, such as an oven, dishwasher, and washing machine and a dryer. Perhaps an induction hob. They figure that they should last them out.

Anyone know if any places do loan miele cat and dog vaccuums out? I'd like to try one for the weekend to compare it to our weirthiem.

I like our Weirthiem but we have had nothing but trouble with the plastics on it breaking/cracking. We have spent about $300 on stuff for it, not covered by warranty of course!.
