gzt:
Where is Pokeno?

Since the highway reconstruction it exists only in the twilight zone. I saw it many moons ago. It was a cold and stormy night.

Not really, it is still a very popular stop off from the motorway as it is very easy to get off and on again without having to go miles out of the way.

The ice-creams are still HUUUUGGGGEEEE and a reasonable price.

but yes it is Waikato region but Franklin District?

I love living in Pokeno even the daily commute up the parking lot daily is not that bad.  Once you come over the Bombay's its a refreshing site.  There has been a lot of debate about being part of Auckland but the majority are happy being part of the Regional Waikato council.  With Pukekohe growing as it is and will do in the proposed unitary plan everything you need is with a 15 minute drive.

I went to see a showhome there and the sales person said the best thing about Pokeno is you don't have to pay rates for Len Brown.  I do remember the sense of freedom driving across the border from Auckland to Waikato.

Athlonite: Isn't it just north of puketifknow

Is that near the place my Dad was always talking about - Whakatewhanau?

I grew up in Auckland, and at some point in the early 1980s found myself going out with a girl who lived in Hamilton. For over a year I drove down every other weekend with a work colleague who's boyfriend lived in Gordonton and every trip we'd stop at Pokeno for ice cream, no matter how cold the weather was. It didn't take long before I worked out I actually liked my passenger more than the girl I was going to see...

My nephew here in California says it's something you "catch" with an App?
