given Stuff's track record nothing can be considered fact until verified

I'm guessing, by the fact the author is named in the article (EDIT: and is the emergency services reporter for the paper), that this was written for the Manawatu Standard, and just ended up on stuff like everything else.

Next you'll tell me you don't read your local newspaper until it's verified.

Plus, the fact that Mr Grubb replied and told their side, means it's verified.

Manawatu Standard = Fairfax = Stuff = rubbish

Verified? no

Now you're being petulant

The hospital spokesperson responded... That verifies it. It HAPPENED!

If not he would have said "No comment" or "We have no idea what you're on about".

Oh, jeez, here we go again!!!

Unfortunately for you AP, Reuters, BBC, RT, CNN, Fox, Huffington, or Al Jazeera don't cover local NZ news.

See ya!

This is the quote the sums up the whole thing:

"I am sorry, but no amount of quoting hospital policy can ever make up for this lack to provide basic humanitarian aid to someone in need."

If you hate a "news" website so much that this doesn't count, there's something dead inside.

In all genuine seriousness, with the VERY inaccurate stories I've read on Stuff in the past, this could still easily end up being a story about a guy (or girl for that matter) that stumbled in the carpark and then went on his merry way.

The rule of the internet applies to Stuff too.
Everything is a hoax until proven otherwise. A hoax cannot cannot prove itself to be not a hoax.

Dont let him worry you...he is trolling by hijacking the thread. There is already other threads on the quality of Stuff, but there was no need to troll this thread.

I've got no particular desire to get involved in this topic per se but calling someone who describes your attitude in this instance as "petulant" as being some kind of name calling is quite childish. I am not a fan of Stuff but all your "contributions" here have consisted of nothing more than repeated, bland assertions that were in essence no more than "Stuff = rubbish; because I think it is rubbish, it is therefore not worth believing" being repeated ad nauseum. In other forums that I read (and I moderate one), by the time you got to your 2nd or 3rd attempt, you may well find those "contributions" deleted as they basically add no value.

This isn't targeted at you in particular but I for one am getting quite tired of seeing people just repeating one-liners ad nauseum in these controversial threads. They get everybody riled up and/or suck all the oxygen out of the thread, with the end result that the same few contributors just end up dominating these threads and they become quite boring at least in my eyes. I suspect on the last point, I am not alone.

An example of a story with critical facts missing.
The stuff story is basically poor Mr Armstrong, he's a hero and they're prosecuting him for it.

The missing facts:
Mr Armstrong was deemed medically unfit to fly, yet on 5 (from memory) occasions flew search and rescue teams and withheld the fact he had lost his licence from them. This was the basis of the CAA prosecution.

I am not trying to troll anyone.

A completely different story from the OP where the hospital commented, St Johns commented, and witnesses commented. Nobody declined to comment...

Keep trying.

But, hey (in your story), let people die... who really gives AF, right? Hang on, the title  of this thread....

Well, to be fair, you are also running the risk of being dramatic just for the heck of it. It may genuinely be that the hospital staff had other matters to attend to and took the view that having an ambulance attend to the person was the better option. What they probably didn't account for was the possibility that no ambulance would get there in good time. I don't think anyone here is saying let people die, who gives a toss etc.

To be frank, whatever legitimate points that one can make based on this article has more or less been made. Can I suggest people either try and continue to discuss things without the melodrama or one-liners or, heavens forbid, just allow this thing to die its natural death?

You're spot on... but the title is still "What Have We Become".

When you doubt a local news story because doubting its credibility is more important to you than someone that may or may not be injured...

A totally uncaring society that doesn't give a toss about anyone outside their SM circles, from what I see.

I think you will find that the story developed over time. The doctor he flew was the same guy who declared him unfit, the rescue crew he flew also knew of that, but the police members he flew did not know apparently.

The first story was about the rescued guy starting a fundraising appeal for Armstrong's legal expenses.

Did Stuff know about -all- these aspects at the time of publication of the first article?

I've noticed it's not uncommon for both Stuff and NZHerald to run a series of articles over several days, expanding the topic. That is the second question.

I've got more to say on that but I'll have to leave it til tomorrow : )
