Interesting that the act makes specific mention that circumventing techology solely for the purpose of defeating geographical restrictions is not in breach of the act.

And yet sony and microsoft still say that making the bluray player region free in their consoles would be "illegal" - go figure.

was more thinking of the whole debacle last year when Spark, Sky and TVNZ got their knickers in a twist over Orcons enabling of geo bypassing. I can understand that they didn't want to go through a long and expensive legal process, but it is quite a pity that a definitive ruling wasn't reached.

 

I know the manager in a local video shop calls it piracy, but if its not in breach of the copyright act (if infact it is specifically allowed) then at worst its a breach of contract between the user and the supplier (Netflix etc).
