This is from the Glen Eden FB page. Ive asked questions to which I'll get no answers and the admins wont delete the post. Yet another android kodi box pusher. Is it actually illegal to sell these here preloaded with all the plugins up and running to watch "free" channels?

Dont get me wrong, I dont really care what people do in their own home, watch whatever you want however you want. I just have a big issue with people making money out of selling products like this and people actually thinking its totally legit.

226 Definitions of TPM terms

In sections 226A to 226E, unless the context otherwise requires,—

TPM or technological protection measure—
(a) means any process, treatment, mechanism, device, or system that in the normal course of its operation prevents or inhibits the infringement of copyright in a TPM work; but
(b) for the avoidance of doubt, does not include a process, treatment, mechanism, device, or system to the extent that, in the normal course of operation, it only controls any access to a work for non-infringing purposes (for example, it does not include a process, treatment, mechanism, device, or system to the extent that it controls geographic market segmentation by preventing the playback in New Zealand of a non-infringing copy of a work)

TPM circumvention device means a device or means that—
(a) is primarily designed, produced, or adapted for the purpose of enabling or facilitating the circumvention of a technological protection measure; and
(b) has only limited commercially significant application except for its use in circumventing a technological protection measure

TPM work means a copyright work that is protected by a technological protection measure.

Emphasis (italics) added. I don't see how this crowd wouldn't be selling what I would classify as a circumvention device.

There have been well publicised cases of stores in the UK selling kodi boxes being raided so I love to know how he thinks its all fine.

And I lost my argument, the mods couldnt decide who was right so the post stays O.o So now Im wondering why my Apple TV doesnt have all these premium channels for free, I feel like Im missing out now :p I heard theres a totally legitimate device from a company called My Box NZ who are selling legal devices 2 for 1 atm!

What I find more annoying is the fact they are ripping people off by selling a $63 box for $270 - when with all of 5 mins work loading kodi, exodus and zem you would have the same functionality : /

The problem is that it completely fails the (b) portion. It absolutely has large commercially significant application outside of its use in circumventing technological protection measures.

The systems themselves are quite useful even without the pirate stream links, but as driller said:

I don't see that as an issue. No different to an IT guy buying $5k worth of server hardware, loading up some software and selling for $15k to a business.

The most annoying thing with all this cr4p is how the sellers don't think it is illegal, or at least sell them as 'perfectly fine'! People just need to be very aware that the content they are watching could stop working at any point and they are left with a useless box.
