3 year old gadget that you paid $0 for, and you want to chase the manufacturer via CGA? Makes you sound a bit petty IMO.

Sorry for winning it.

But it should still last longer than 3 years. I've spent quite a bit on games and peripherals since getting it. Also I can only ask. Im not going to drag them into small claims over it, will just see what they say and if they say nope, then fine, I'll attempt the wifi card replacement, failing that, guess Im shelling out for the new model.

I beleive the CGA covers goods that are bundled free, and often you are indirectly paying for the item anyway. eg If you get a free ipad when you take out a mortgage. Or a free TV when you buy a fridge, both are usually in lieu of a discount. Winning something is slightly different, but someone would have purchased them originally

Winning it is no different than being given it as a birthday or Christmas present, OP is able under CGA to chase it up.

I wouldn't have bothered with mentioning the CGA, I would have simply said "I have had this Xbox, which I love, and it's been fantastic, but it seems that a controller broke. I have read online that Microsoft will sometimes come to the party and replace controllers and I was wondering if you could

please find out if that was possible".

I would probably try that approach in chat and see what comes of it.

Having said that, a controller has lots of moving parts and is portable and I don't consider $85 for a new controller after 3 years, out of line.

Its not the controllers that are broke tho, its the console itself. Have tested controllers via USB and via the WIndows dongle and work perfectly.

Oops, misread it. Same thing applies though, I'd ask in a different way.

Update.... no update.

MS said to talk to supplier, contacted Hoyts who have contacted their supplier (Roadshow)...and thats where the trail has ended....  no updates since then. Guess Ill jump on AliExpress for a replacement chip and try it  - knowing my luck, soon as I take the cover off, Roadshow will be in touch to say "send it in, well give you replacement" :-p

I'd chase it up further with Microsoft NZ.

Do you have some proof of when you won the prize?

It had the same value as a purchased one, the OP just didnt have to purchase it. he could have been gifted a prize that was worth $0, but in this case, wasn't.

The problem is that you will likely void any CGA claim you may have if you go down that route.

Facebook posts ;)

Unfortunately my wifes laptop got hit by Cryptolocker last year, so all emails are locked away :( Hoyts/Roadshow will have a record of it tho...

Roadshow have come back to me, they're chatting with Microsoft about it, and will let me know hopefully in next few days what the outcome will be. Fingers crossed, but as I said to Roadshow, I'm just following an option given to me, if it goes no where then so be it, I'm not gonna go "rah" at anyone over it. :)

So +1 to Roadshow for at least trying to assist :)
