The clever wife won an Xbox One a while back (july 2014), but recently, the controllers are refusing to stay connected to it, they drop in and out at random.  Also noticed the Kinnect sensor LED seemed to be going on and off at random as well.

Changed batteries, tried updates, and in the end factory reset the Xbox - this seemed to stop the Kinnect dropping but the controllers still drop in and out.

Have just connected the controllers via the Windows Wireless dongle on my PC, and theyre behaving themselves, leaving me reasonably convinced it is the Xbox itself at fault.

Now, because it was a prize, and not purchased, do I have a leg to stand on in regards to the CGA ? Or should I be prepared to kiss it goodbye ? :)

I think prizes are still covered by the CGA, as wouldn't a prize be considered a gift?

I am sure you have but have you tried a full power cycle of the device? also have you recently put in new wireless devices close to the Xbox that is interfering?

As above, try your luck with Microsoft. If that fails, the fix below should work.

Part - try find a more reliable source.

Yup, even factory reset the thing. And no, no new wifi in the house.

Login to below website with the first Microsoft account that signed into the console and check the warranty status. I remember my Xbox One Day One edition purchase at launch in 2014 was due to expire in 2017 for warranty. You will be surprised..

Anyone have a valid number for MS for this sort of support ? Any number I find assumes I'm in the US, or has no option for Xbox at all - even the MS community I get directed to has no Xbox section and the mods there tell people to go away regarding Xbox problems.

Has it done the controller firmware update? Something changed on the xbox that made it really bad for me until I did that update.
