Well that was a total waste of $12.. signed up, just got the "its live now" email that says free shipping only applies if you use the same email address.. I have my own domains and use a discrete email address for every site. Total fail service :-(

lol what? How does that stop you using the service? It still works, just because it isn't compatible with how you prefer to use sites doesn't mean it's a waste/fail.
If it's that big of an issue just create an email specifically for shipmate and use it during this trial period, then never use it again. nbd.

I would have expected it to add that as a shipping option and then oauth thru nzpost to get the authorization to the account that shipmate is attached to. I seldom use the same email address on different stores except when they make an account based on my paypal shipping address.

IMO this is a giant fail. High retail prices and then paying to get it delivered at a flat rate is absurd. It works for amazon in the USA because they are not charging the high retail price, so flat rate deliverys at a price makes sense. I pay for mightyapes primate because they have good deals often.

I think that expecting people to pay retail store prices, and then delivery ontop of that is just taking the micky. Why should I be paying for all the retail overheads I am not using by shopping online, and then instead of them shipping to the store, they are shipping to me. If the website is priced at retail store prices that include those overheads then the delivery should damnwell be free since they are taking money for checkout operators, store aircon, lighting, lease etc that I am not using which would amount to way more than the cost of someone picking it, bagging it and a courier cost on most things.

I think you misunderstand.. I have existing accounts with NL / Warehouse / etc, each with a unique email address.. I signed up for shipmate with a unique email account. Shipmate are saying I can only use my subscription if I change the email address on each service to match. If I sign up for new accounts with the merchants using the shipmate email, I lose my ability to see my order history etc. If I change the email on all the accounts (even assuming I can do that) it's both a PITA and ties all the accounts together which decreases security and increases the marketing data that can be harvested, again hardly ideal.

Got the below email about Shipmate for those who are interested. The site seems to be down at the moment, I guess registration has opened to the public and it's just hugged to death? Pricing has gone up to $20 as well.

I just hope they're planning to introduce more stores because the warehouse, noel leeming and warehouse stationery don't exactly come to mind when I think of Christmas shopping, but each to their own.

Updated email from them that I just received. I don't think I'll resubscribe with their $10 minimum purchase rule. There were quite a few times I ordered something worth only a few dollars and I only did so because of the convenience, otherwise I'd have waited till I was next out and got it at another place cheaper (random home essentials that I got normally would have been cheaper at the supermarket, or would be a brand I preferred to use).

[edit] again I have no idea what I'm doing with constraining images :-)

I was going to resub at $20 before I saw the minimum order restrictions.

Pretty much everything I ordered was a single unit of a $1-2 item (e.g. 1 Chocolate bar.. 1 can of peaches.. 1 bottle of fizzy)

And you wonder why they implemented a minimum order size?

People do that with amazon prime. They encourage it with the dash buttons etc. Stupid limitation IMO, perhaps now the warehouse are promising "everyday low prices" instead of their BS high prices and then 60% sales like briscoes it might be a better idea than before, but I will still pass on this offer I think. Get better value out of primate with mighty ape than this.

Not really..  Amazon Prime is about $11.50 NZ a month, Mighty Ape Primate is $48/year with unlimited shipping and no minimum order.

$10/month for unlimited shipping from The Warehouse with minimum order size is positively expensive in comparison to Mighty Ape, and only just behind Amazon Prime which carries a truckload of other benefits.

I would have expected it to add that as a shipping option and then oauth thru nzpost to get the authorization to the account that shipmate is attached to. I seldom use the same email address on different stores except when they make an account based on my paypal shipping address.

OAuth on each sale is pretty bad user experience tbh.

Not needed on each sale, just the first to attach it to your nzpost account. Oauth is fine - click the link, go to the other site, it asks if you want to authorize the retailer, click yes, back to the retailer and you are good to go. Better than having to try to get email addresses on logins changed which with many places is impossible because the idiots that set the sites up used that as a username.

That is a good point actually, but it also this enables account sharing with a much wider audience!

If they let the one shipmate be used on multiple accounts then IMO they deserve all they get as far as abuse of that. With it on one retailer account per shipmate account its no different to amazon prime or primate. I have to log in and order the stuff, but can still have it sent to work or to friends directly, just has to be me buying it. People do share amazon and mightyape accounts because of the flat rate shipping so in anycase if needed the retailer account will just get shared around.
