my father likes Marmite and lettuce but I think that is just too weird.

as a kid I loved Marmite, cheese and chip (like ETA or Bluebird) sandwiches. (actually I still love them)

On the rare time my late father made our school lunches his favourite was jam and cheese. Sorry dad, but I hated them.

I had a flatmate years ago who swore by kiwifruit jam (homemade), sour cream and dry uncooked two minute noodle (sans the flavouring) sandwiches. He was studying viticulture, goodness knows what his wines turned out like.

I loved jam club sandwiches, yes that's right, multiple slices of bread stacked on each other, with each slice spread with a different flavour of jam.

My foreign wife is horrified that our sons and I like sandwiches with butter and hot chips as the filling.

Well some thought my penchant for banana and cheese sandwiches was strange, but have been proven wrong by this thread. However, as I have discovered, people go ewwww until they try it. So there may be some here worth trying.

My favourite quick snack from the fridge is just a ham & cheese sandwich (no bread). Just a slice of cheese between two slices of ham.

I went to boarding school, and our lunches were brought down from the Hostel in a big basket (it was heavy - 100 lunches in one wire basket - carried by two third-formers).

In my early years there (3rd and 4th Form) lunches were three white bread sandwiches and a piece of fruit. The sandwiches were usually 1 x Jam, 1 x Cheese and 1 x either baked beans or mince. This was fine if you were a senior and got your lunch off the top of the basket, but when you were a third former, you waited until last and got the layers at the bottom. This usually meant you had one jam, cheese and mince (or Baked Bean) sandwich, as they were so compressed together that you couldn't seperate them into three sandwiches any more. They were actually pretty good, but I wouldn't say they are a favourite :p
