Apparently he has not died. CBS report was faux.
Petty is on life support from what is known.

The most recent reporting I can find is that he has no brain activity and was taken off life support but is holding on.

To quote one twitter user "Tom Petty may not be dead but journalism is"

In those situations they often just put them on a drip (if even that) and let them starve / dehydrate to death. Still breathing but no brain activity......they usually refuse to feed the undead corpse for more than a handful of days unless the family want to take the person home and keep it fed, watered and cleaned at their own expense in memory of who they used to be.

I bought the 4-hour Tom Petty documentary 'Runnin' Down a Dream' a couple of years ago, still to watch it. So, now I will most definitely find the time. RIP Tom.

There's something particularly sad about listening to the music of a recently departed artist.

Same for documentaries. There was an excellent one on TV about Pink Floyd and they spent a lot of time talking about Syd Barrett. Gilmour and Waters were still emotional about it after all these years. Makes listening to Wish You Were Here and SOYCD even more touching.

Yup. Same with when Murray Ball passed away recently, pulling out the footrot flats books made me very sad. Even though he hadn't produced anything new for a while, the thought it wouldn't ever happen again was .. poignant.

+1 for the Pink Floyd doco. It was an incredibly touching tribute, still sticks in my mind several years after viewing.

That's the specific section of the doco that sticks in my mind. Tragic, and almost impossible to reconcile the latter day Barrett with the popular extrovert in the early days of the band.
