Whilst agreeing that that is factually correct, the delivery agent is only responsible to the person who paid for their services ... it does seem illogical that they will not help all parties, but no doubt their legal responsibilities and subsequent penalties is tied to the contract between them and the seller?

In my experience the item gets there quicker when sent by mail rather than by courier. I know that's not the choice in this case.

Many of the Couriers around here are a bit lazy. We've had cards left because "there was no one home" when there's been someone home all day, no knock on the door, nothing. Even when they do knock they barely give you time to get to the door before they're on their way back out the gate.

Ok I deal with this crap everyday.

OP what is the tracking number and who is the courier, I'm going to assume NZ post and Courier Post

More importantly was your parcel signature required or non signature? In this case also I'm going to say you did not give authority to leave if signature required.

If signature required you have a case against the courier BUT the contract is between the seller and the courier so from this side of the world you need to ask if the delivery driver can attempt to pick up the item from where they dropped off and deliver to you (win)

if the driver cannot do this (even non signature) they need to prove where they delivered the item and my guess will be they can't so ask for the courier agent to put in writing (email) that there driver has delivered to incorrect address and forward that to the seller which then proves the courier stuffed up and ask for a replacement or refund and the seller will have to lodge a claim with the courier agent.

This problem is technically between the seller and courier but doing the work for the seller makes your case more likely in your favour. If you can get the courier agent to admit fault then you should be able to get a refund.

If seller doesn't budge then don't deal with them again.

I've once had a courier who rung my doorbell - I answered it remotely as I was not home and told him he was alright to leave it around the corner of our house. Instead, he walks out to his van and calls me directly on my mobile and hears the same voice.

Asks if it was me on the doorbell, I replied yes, he then drove away. I then got a call from the office saying the courier was "freaked out" due to the doorbell and to rearrange delivery when somebody is home. I swear this courier was on something as never had an issue with any other courier.

Never seen this courier again.

Yeah we had trouble with knock and run couriers. One day I was quick enough whip around the back of the house and bust the guy heading back to his van in the driveway. He got quite a fright when I appeared around the side side of the garage and yelled out.

update: i called nzpost and the first person told me to contact SGPost???

called again towards the end of the day to see if it would yield different results. this lady called the driver while i was on the line and the driver actually said he had picked the item up at the end of his run after realizing he delivered it to the wrong house. weirdly he didn't just drop it off to me next door but it's out for delivery again today with some more parcels of mine so as long as it arrives ill be happy. will update if it doesn't arrive.

i still find it ridiculous that the first rep told me to go to SGPost...like it arrived all the way to CHCH and only got 'lost' at final delivery - not sure how SG was meant to help with that.

yes it was a vacuum from GB.

edit: ah yes, i think everyone has had their fair share of courier stories. i've literally been standing behind the gate when drivers pull up and they're so intent on giving me a card to call they didn't even realize i was standing right there. then the whole 'dogs at the house - safety issue' - so we put our dogs out back and left the gate open for redelivery and they gave me another card to call.

On Monday the wife was home all day and the front door was open as it was warm. She was in the (attached) Garage (but the roller door was down) and heard a vehicle pull up. To get into the property you have to open a gate, at which point courier would have seen open door. Before she could walk out of the garage and get to the front door she heard the vehicle pull away. The gate was never opened (its latch is on the side of the garage and makes a distinct noise.) By the time she got to the gate to look up the street she could see the Courier post van heading out of our cul de sac, with a "No one home" card to call left in the mailbox. Utter crap service. To make it worse that courier does not drop off undelivered stuff to the local post shop agent till after 4.30pm (he left the card at 10.50am) Its the second time in the last 6 months this has happened to us, I had been home earlier in the year and had a somewhat similar eperience, no onehad come into the property, just left the card in the mailbox without bothering to check if anyone was home. Problem is if we complain my expectation is that it will get worse, or items will start arriving damaged or not at all - I have heard of this happening to my parents (with a rural delivery contractor) and also friends in town who had similar problems.

Whats the point of paying for a premium service when the service levels delivered are anything but.

To be fair it will vary from driver to driver - at our old place in town the courier who covered our area was really good.

What's the reason that couriers are so reluctant to deliver things properly? If they don't deliver the parcel then don't they just have to re-deliver it at a later date, thus accruing two trips to the address?

Well for the Courier post ones they can dump them at the local post shop and make it the recipients problem, as I mentioned in my other post. I haven't had this issue with other companies (so far!)

I think they get paid per delivery. No delivery, no payment. If they scribble on the PDA and dump it on your doorstep they can claim it was delivered and get paid.
