tdgeek: I remember thin Pizza Hut bases, great. I assumed they are gone?

You can have thin, traditional or pan pies from Pizza Hut.

I actually have no problem with a traditional cheese and garlic Pizza Hut. Anything with meat is a miss though as I think the meat is not really that great. Asking for anchovies or oregano topping is sometimes a hit and miss - either too little or too much.

I found out "margherita" pizza in some places is just a cheese pizza with a drizzle of pesto-flavoured oil on top instead of just basil leave - not a real margherita.

I too used to love Pizza Hut. These days I go for Dominos (though largely because they're closer to where I live now). Their website is pretty snappy and works just fine on mobile if you don't want to install the app. Only concern is that a while back they had a security breach where a whole lot of email addresses (including mine) were disclosed. Fourtently I don't have a password for my dominios account and I only pay on pickup so no biggie for me but does add a black mark against their name for me.

Hell is also a treat for me. Only once or twice a year. Sal's is another nice option which I reserve for outings with friends where we'll get one of their deals and share the food.

I remember the old day of the dine in Pizza Hut in the late 80s when they used to have a great selection which were big and thick. They also had really nice chips and salads, compared to the chips today.My favourite was the Mexican, which had chilli beans, and corn chips and sour cream in the middle. Although that was when they were about 30 dollars a pizza, and that was 80s money. But I don’t know why they don’t bring back some of the old ones. Maybe Hells have taken over that market. The restaurant in the Mid City building in Wellington is where the one we used to go as a family.

I've gone back to Pizza Hut after mostly going to Dominos. The cheese at Dominos seems too artificial.

Sal's pepperoni wheels are my favourite, but the size can vary between locations.

We usually use Domino's as they are good value and deliver good product in under 30 minutes. I thought I'd give Pizza Hut another go a couple of months ago and never again. 2.5 hours waiting (after numerous calls and promises) for what was nowhere near as good as Domino's.

I also find the dominos ones are more greasy. Also for some reason Dominos prices vary between outlets in the same overall region. I only buy vegetarian pizza these days, and also add my own toppings, but I still rarely have them. It would be interesting to compare pizzas today, with pizzas of the past. I suspect the regular sized ones have shrunk a lot. A bit like other food products where they have decreased the size, rather than put up the prices.

quickymart: Anyone like Sal's (like me)? I know they're not everywhere but I think their pizzas are quite good.

Thankfully, they are expanding.

There also is Toto Pizza by the metre. Quite tasty and novel form factor.

Slightly off topic of the OP..

Don't know if anyone noticed, (cheapies crowd did when the sizes shrunk slightly) Dominos use to have base variations.

Thin

Classic Doms

Pan Base

Filled with x

But I suspect mixed sales on these was low and the throw out for having them ready and waiting high. As a while back they changed to 'all pizzas are now Pan Base' wrrrroonnnggg. The number of times just prior we got mixed base orders at work and they ended up the same - Pretty sure they now have the name pan base, but they're actually the standard classic dominos. Nowhere near as much filling bread goodness.

And not gone to Pizza hut since their $18 combo become cheap range (remember when they use to be $3.99..) pizza included which excludes Meatlovers.

Just visited them now and even the cookie detection phase died - it triggers uBlock

I remember when they had restaurants that had all-you-can-eat. I don't know why but the pizzas always seemed to taste better in the restaurants too! Are there any of these restaurant-type places still open? They all seem to have closed. :(

Sorry, I meant unless specified. But the pan base as an extra option was changed to default, while the 'dominos classic' was "dropped".

So in reality thick bases dropped while renaming the mid depth.

Nope, all gone. However, the Australian division are looking at relaunching the dine-in restaurants.

Yes, I remember the Pizza Hut restaurant on Manners St, Wellington. And the one in Taupo. The Manners St one was on one level of the cinema which is now the Kiwibank branch on Manners St (yes, NZ Post is now changing the mixed NZ Post / KiwiBank into exclusive KiwiBank - creating a thread for this).

I remember the Pizza Hut in Manners Mall in the early '90s - and if memory services me correctly dine in pizzas back then were $20+ which was incredibly expensive for the time.
