Anything greasier than Sals must be floating in it because Sals you need to drain each slice before picking it up.

The New Yorker has a better base than the $5 pepperonis and does look nicer. If I were offered a choice between them I'd pick the new yorker.

Then again I've only had them provided at work lunches so no value consideration there :)

You have to order the dominos on thin and crispy. Last time it changed to some other even worse base without me noticing and it was more like bread with toppings.

I dont find the new yorkers to be good value. Too much for one sitting and they dont reheat that easily due to the size. The $5 ones are a meal for one so are my go to pizzas normally unless I have a good deal code for something slightly fancier.

Yea I tried one a few weeks ago.Way bigger than normal range. I could barely get through 2 pieces on my own. Not really suited for 1 person lol.

Yeah, not worth when there are better alternatives out there. I ordered a Big Pepperoni and Sausage a couple of nights ago and all I thought was "did I just spend $15 on this?"

Yep, agree, same pizza, had one on special shared between 2 of us. Very Very Very limp, a bit short on topping & sauce and very greasy.

Their $5 beef or pork pizza on thin crust much better.

But I try to stay away from this type of food as it does not agree with my scales. embarassed

I had one when they first came out (I think it was either $18 or $20); my first thought - yes big but not 3.5 or 4x as big as regular sized pizza ..

Tommy Millions are too greasy.

Sal's is not bad and Scopa is pretty good. But not easy to find a great pizza around Wellington.

Strange.. I had the exact opposite experience, I found Sal's horribly greasy.

Wholly Bagels and Mediterranean Food Warehouse should probably get mentions too for Welly Pizza

I've looked at the Pizza Hut junkmail in recent months and seriously wondered who would actually buy their pizzas. Normally junk mail photos make food look appealing - their pizzas look truly disgusting!

seen them at kiddie parties/sleepovers. lots of kids think mcdonalds make a good burger.

other than that, it would be their target market.

  • students who just want something for their booze to push down the esophagus...
  • and, with absolutely no intention to be demeaning, those who only have $5 in their pockets for tonight's meal.

I think Pizza Hut actually have better crust than dominos but that's about where the praise ends.

Pizzeria Napoli in Courtenay Pl - forgot about it before, but this is likely the best one in the city.

Pizza Library - Mt Maunganui & Bethlehem - Ab Fab but a bit far from me But they do have small bread plate size which I eat traveling home along with their Salt & Pepper Squid - Yum Yum

Hells Pizza - Tauranga & Papamoa Beach - Have not tried them but others rave about them

Pizza Jacks - Pyes Pa Tauranga = expensive but also Yum Yum

There is also La Bella Italia in Petone which was recently made it into the list of the top 70 pizza restaurants in the world.

Sals opened in Mt Maunganui recently. Tried it out, it's quite nice and better than the main pizza chain outlets but a little expensive.

The best pizza in the Tauranga area though, is Mount Pizza, opposite the Mt Hot Pools. It is a dingy store and you don't expect much. But their Hawaiian (which I don't usually like) is the best, and they have a mexican pizza which is the best I have tried. They are also expensive, but get what you pay for.

Pizza hut is fairly terrible pizza but the kids like it.

FWIW, I suspect the big chain stores vary in quality from store to store. Here in Pram the Pizza Hut is actually pretty good, certainly superior to the local Domino's, and the local Hell is pretty average too sadly.

Hell has gone way downhill in recent years. It's not really value for money anymore either.
