Seems NZ Post are have a totally cosmetic customer service ethic.

I have been getting a range of mail including official documents, invoices (I presume) for The Customhouse in Pipitea, Wellington. They mail is addressed clearly but as an multi-tennant office block NZ Post will not deliver and it does not appear on the postcode finder. So they send it to an identical address in Lower Hutt with a different Postcode.

I also have never got any satisfaction by complaining.

Note I have managed to get the courier companies to not midd-deliver

The postie reads from the top of the address till they find a street and number. They trust that if it got to them, it's correct. If they had to read every item fully it would take forever. They get paid per item.

The CSR is probably doing everything they can. They can only log the issue and pass it to the appropriate mail sorting centre. One crap person in the chain and it all falls down.

NZ Post is a dinosaur.
They seem to give specialist jobs to people who would like a turn, or who saw it done once on telly. This results incompetent people doing important jobs.
They won't single anyone out and tell them they did a crap job. Instead they get the whole team and say "we did poorly", everyone shrugs and thinks "wasn't me" and they carry on their merry way.

I feel OP's annoyance.

I keep getting mail from AMP addressed to the previous owner of our house. We purchased the house in 1998; so yes 20 years later, AMP still sending mail addressed to them to our address.

I've always returned the mail marked with "No longer at this address. Gone since 1998. No forwarding address". I've also called them a couple of times and emailed them too. Last email correspondence I have was 2015 where they emailed me back to say that the address has been removed, but 3 days ago we received mail again adressed to previous owner. I emailed AMP yesterday and cc'd their Managing Director. No response so far.

May have to send it back with an invoice this time.

The NZ Post CSR's have always been very professional.

But NZ post don't seem to have an issue escalation process. Each time I call them, they seem to take the same corrective action which failed previously. Feels like ground hog day haha.

I called them again this morning and someone more senior is supposed to be giving me a call. Fingers crossed this is the last item I will receive.

Find out when your postie delivers the mail, then camp your mailbox and talk to the postie, if they still deliver I would just bin it as you have given them plenty of changes to correct the problem.

It'll be a machine making a poor decision at the early stages, as andrewNZ has mentioned. Is the street address / number at all similar to yours, and / or is it the same every time? The postie's will be saving time by

The CSR will be trying to get the relevant information to the right person to seek a resolution, but as andrewNZ also mentioned, it's a bit of a dinosaur, and moves as such. Once your info reaches the right people you should get there, so be persistent, if you have the patience for it.

Is it all letters and do they have a fluro orange barcode in the lower right?

They are all letters but they don't normally have the orange fluoro barcode, and normally have the postcode. Some are hand written addresses, others are printed on a printer.

I can't talk to anyone except for the CSR on the 0800 number.  When I ask to speak to someone who can actually help to stop this,  they tell me someone will call (but never happens).

The items usually have the postcode for waiheke island.

eg, here is one i received  ...

The thing is, i have a monitor on my address so every letter that goes to me is supposed to be checked by staff first. But, still gets though.

That first row of numbers could be causing a problem.

The Customs Wellington office at 1 Hinemoa St does appear in the post code finder but it is about 5th or 6th choice after other Hinemoa Streets. For some reason Customs list their physical address as 1 Hinemoa St Harbour Quays rather than the NZ Post Pipitea.

I would have thought that anything Customs would have been diverted to their po box. I used to cleaar the po box of a very much smaller organisation and anything addressed to the street address was routinely diverted. Maybe shifting the sorting to Palmerston North has removed the fine tuning.

As far as misdirected mail from Power Companies and the like they don't seem to care. I had a neighbour skip town owing Genesis Energy a considerable amount. They persisted with final demands for months even though the letters were being returned. According to their call centre the mailing was outsourced and there didn't seem to be a way of stopping the process. I was told to just bin any further mail and eventually it would get sent to a debt collector.

No. That item was hand sorted.

It wouldn't be an issue for the machines either, they read from the bottom up.

I just had the manager from local operations give me a call. She has only just started on the job so wasn't sure how to fix this.

She is going to ask the postie and sorters to check mail going to our address.

Now she is on the case, hopefully this can stop once and for all!

Starting to get waiheke mail again....this is just the first, but usually it starts small , frequency increases until I call them again. Looks like the auto sorting machine is doing this, strange though cos my postcode looks nothing like those waiheke post codes.

I put all the misdirected mail we get in a sturdy metal container.

I believe that item was probably hand sorted. The barcode reader is unlikely to be able to read the barcode (the orange one). That item probably got read, barcoded and rejected for a bad barcode.

This is a rubbish situation for you to be in.
The only solution I can see is to make it a problem they need to solve.

Maybe contact the recipient and NZ Post. Tell them about the issue, and let them know if they want it, NZ post is welcome to come pick it up at your convenience.
