Its just a number but when you say if you started driving 1000 years Before Christ, and you still have 300 years to drive , that's crazy. With Universe stuff, a lot of things are difficult to comprehend.

if it's anything more than 1 pixel wide i'd be impressed. so far things like galaxies have only been photographed about 2 pixels wide.

Thats a rubbish resolution. Can you re post as 4k and HDR? :-)

Why bother? If your screen is not OLED you won't see a true black.

OK, It's 3082 years by your calc, I'll allow that, you pass, next please.

"When Neptune and Earth line up on the same side of the sun, at their closest, they are only 2.7 billion miles (4.3 billon kilometers) apart. But when the planets are on opposite sides of the sun, they can put as many as 2.9 billion miles (4.7 billion km) between them."

Tdgeek goes when planets are furthest apart,  DarthKermit goes when they are the closest. 😂

The actual image they've come up with has now been made public. Kinda looks like an orange out of focus doughnut.

I printed mine out with a laser printer. Only lasers can make true black.

Yes, it was pretty much always going to: but that's important in and of itself. It DOES look exactly like it was expected to look. So once again ... we fail* to find the crack in Relativity that might lead to a quantum gravity theory.

*Of course, the image has only just been released. There will be years of research poring over it to see if there is a crack to be exposed.

It's not really a photo, and thus it's not really orange, and of course it's not really torus shaped - just looks that way from any direction when viewed from a distance.

i'd really want to see the raw image (if it even exists .. it says it combined petabytes of raw data to render the photo)

this is what the media shows when they say there is an image of a rock Oumuamua that could be an alien spaceship

this is what the actual photo looks like

If I squint my eyes a bit it definitely looks like a glazed donut.

Maybe they need to rename the black hole "Springfield".
